Ok, guys, this is a tough one. A friend has a 5 year old severley diabetic INUSLIN RESISTANT cat. The vet arranged an insulin "cocktail" that he tolerates and has brought down his blood sugar level. He was doing well for a few days.

He then had severe diaherria. The litterbox was full when Snowball's "mom" came home. He is currently at the vets 24/7. Blood tests have been done. Special tests were done also and sent out of state to evaluate pancreas problems. These are the tests that may determine how to treat Snowball, but they take a week.

If anyone has been through before, please let me know. The vet said it could be something treatable. The cat is having a very hard time and it would be a tragedy if the tests came back too late.

Thank you!

Sorry to hear about Snowball

I don't have any experience w/ diabetic cats
, but have you searched the forum for answers? I also found this website online: http://www.yourdiabeticcat.com/index.html

Maybe you'll find something helpful there. And hopefully, some TCS-ers with experience will see your post soon. Has the vet determined whether or not the diarrhea is linked to the diabetes? Also, would insulin levels need to be adjusted in case of illness (as it does in people)?

Good Luck
& healing vibes over your way

Thanks for the link. The thing is, this cat's diabetes is not like adult onset diabetes in humans. It is similar to juvenille diabetes, which is a much more serious kind. Its complicated by the unusual fact that the cat is insulin resistant. I am hoping that someone here has heard of this before and can offer some suggestions. The cat goes up and down. He is home today and it seems that the vet found the right insulin "cocktail" to regulate his blood-sugar levels... for now. The diarrhea has stopped. Thank God!
Blood tests have not come back yet. It is unknown if the diarrhea is related. Some (human) family members had a stomach virus too, so maybe it was just that.

The reason I posted was in case someone could shed some light on it before the tests came back because the vet was stumped. Thanks for your input!
