I have two piercings in my left ear, and three in my right (the third is in the cartiledge at the top of the ear -- at the time, I didn't realize it was supposed to "signify" my sexual orientation, but even if I had known I'm not sure I would have cared).

I don't have any tattoos, but one I've always considered is that of a small gecko on my big toe. (Someone else I knew and admired had the same tattoo, and I just really liked it.) My younger sister has the Chinese symbol for "courage" tattooed in the small of her back (and she knows that that's what the symbol means, because she had a Chinese artist friend design it for her) and is considering getting something else, possibly a Canadian flag. J's parents both have a bunch of tattoos, and his younger sister has the Canadian flag tattooed in the same place that my sister has her "courage" symbol. J and I are the boring ones!

It's not that I don't like tattoos or that I'm afraid of pain. I just can't think of any particular symbol that I value or like enough to have it on me for the rest of my life. Even the gecko tattoo that I like doesn't hold enough personal symbolism for me to want to emblazon myself with it. I don't see piercings as having the same permanency (although sometimes the scarring can ...).

I have no piercings or tattoos, but I have been thinking about getting a tattoo of a bobcat and cougar. I have some very good pictures of my bobcats and of Carmelo our cougar. I would like to find someone who can do a tattoo of them. The thing is, I would have trouble choosing which bobcat; Amber, Boris or Nakoma. Since Amber was our first, I think I would choose her.

I have pierced ears but very rarely wear earrings. I do however have two tattoo's one on my wrist of a Celtic triad and one on my shoulder of a Norse Triad. They symbolize the connection between the physical, emotional and spiritual.

I have 8 piercings. 6 are in my ears. And i know how to clean my piercings & remove them if necessary. They hand out that information when you get piercings at a professional piercing shop.

I don't have any tattoos, but plan to get one or a few.
I can't really do more piercings because of work, but tattoos can be hidden.

Don't have that type of committment to a design, I suppose. Just two piercings in each ear

I have a tattoo of a black shark on my upper arm. It was a high school mistake. Not that I'm against tattoos... I'm currently saving up for a sleeping tiger for my lower back... but I just hate this shark one because it's all I could afford at the time and I wasn't leaving without a tattoo. It makes me look like a pirate or biker woman or something (I do ride a bike though...

In my own world, its much nicer there
I have a tattoo on both wrists, one is the kanji of my nickname, its real munted though, cost a $100 and people ask if I did it myself, thats how bad it is. The other is a trademark I designed, its also kanji. And my left ear pierced 2x, but I don't have the piercings in at the moment.

I hate needles too, but a tat gun really isn't like a needle and as soon as I have more $$$ I'm getting more tattoos its sooo fun.

Ok update on me...

Here is the latest one (of course the pic is of when it had just gotten done and that was at the begining of June)

And well the next one I am going to get very soon, and well is gonna be angel wings and my paps name in the middle and a halo above...of course R.I.P will be there too! And underneath I am going to get "I love u" in Italian (my pap was a full blooded Italian
But my uncle said he was going to get that one for me
And well I will more than likely get my tiger than

Also I am debating on my tongue pierced...but I am for sure getting the bottom of my belly button done...I have wanted it since I got the first one done
But I thought I would update every one on this thread

Also the cherry one my brother bought me for graduation

So totals for me
Piercings: Belly, nose, 2 in each ear (used to have...labret, and I surely miss it
)
Tattoos: 2 so far

I have had my tongue and my naval pierced but I took those out a couple of years ago.
I have five in my ears currently, three in one, two in another.....but I used to have ten holes, five in each ear.

I have one tattoo next to my hip-bone where no one can see it (unless I want them to!).

It's the main symbol from the musical Miss Saigon. (and yes, I am a dork)

This is it:

Just the black part.

I love it, and I'd post the actual picture but it was taken a couple of years ago and I feel it's too scandalous now because I'm aparently old.

Some piercings require tools to take them out fyi... If you have a needle nose plyers on hand and can take out my tragus piercings for me than go for it, it is a very hard piercing to remove on your own... Not to mention if the piercing is fresh (pierced within 6 months to a year, it is inadvisable to take it out, this is also true for any piercing that may have an infection present) I have had MRI's and never once had a complaint with my two tragus piercings being left in... Its been covered with a band aid for procedure/surgeries and any cat scan/xray work I have had done. Also another fyi you dont need to take a piercing out to maintain hygeine, its called lather clean hands with anti-bacterial soap, apply to the piercing and move the barbell or hoop in and out at the site of the piercing, this is alson known as rotating or spinning. Here is a link to maintaining piercing hygiene. Thanks (owner of 12 piercings)!

I have thought about getting a tattoo, but I don't like the idea of the whole permanent thing, LOL And then there is the whole "AIDS" and "HEP C" fear from resused and improperly sterilized needles.

I'm a nurse and I have seen many people with tattoos, and while the young ones always say 'go for it" when I mention that I have thought about getting one, all of the "old(er)" ones tell me that if they had to do it all over again, that they wouldn't, and they recommend that I think long and hard before going and marking up my body permanently like that.

Also, as a nurse I can tell you that too many tattoos can actually be a hazard to your health because if you ever get sick and need to have an intravenous inserted, they better be able to find a part of your body that has venous access that doesn't have a tattoo on it.

As nurses, we are taught and told to never insert an Intravenous over a tattoed area of the body. I remember one girl that I had to put an intravenous in that had her whole arms covered with tattoos and I had to find another part of her body to put the needle. I ended up having to use her BOOB!!! Yes, her boob! She wasn't at all happy about that, and frankly neither was I.
