Well, OK, so you wouldn't believe this!

Like 2 weeks ago my boyfriend, our room mate, and I were all down at the pool. We live in condos so everyone shares the same pool! Well, I had to run back to my condo real quick and I just put my towel in the gate of the pool to hold it open... So, I came right back and ran and jumped in the pool- completely forgetting that my towel is still holding the gate open. The maintenance guy of the building came by, and was like "Who's towel is this?" I said it was mine, and then he proceeded to ask me what condo I live in, etc. I told him without a problem. He then shuts the gate, and chains up the gate and locks it! Luckily there is one more gate to get out, otherwise I would be locked in!

Now, it is 2 weeks later and I just got notice from my landlord that they are charging me $100 for that incident. Plus, they are giving me a warning because my noodles and rafts for the pool are on the patio of my condo and well they can SEE them from the road. We aren't supposed to have anything being seen from the road!

So why are they charging you $100? Because your towel was on the gate?! Nothing was broken or harmed?

Wow... thats unreal! Time to find a new place to live!!

They are charging me the $100 because my towel was in the gate. Nothing was broken, and it wasn't like I was doing it to let a lot of people in. I had a legit reason, but I guess it was stupid! I would have learned my lesson if they would have just given me a warning! My landlord says he's working on that fine to see if he can just make it a warning instead! I really hope so!

Where I live they also give you $150 fine if your caught swimming after pool closes, which is 11PM! Luckily, I haven't got that fine yet!

You are not allowed to have any dogs there. Not even to visit. If you get caught even having a dog on the property, you get a warning and then you would have to pay $50 each day the dog is there!

Our old neighbor got a $150 fine because he had his tow truck parked at the comlex. In HIS assigned parking spot. But since it's a business truck, it's not allowed!

We are also forbidden to have any satellites/dishes at our condo. The reason is because "it changes the look of the building!"

Yeah, my boyfriend, our roommate and I are all looking into getting a house together so we don't have to deal with this crap.

That's why I never want to live in a condo. Their association rules can be ridiculous.

Be careful of some neighborhoods too. If you rent/buy a house, some subdivisions have home owners associations and they can be just as crabby as a condo association. Heck, the subdivision my parent live in tried to place a rule that no pick up trucks were allowed to be seen in drive ways.
Yea right, like that one passed...the majority of the people that live in the sub have a pick up truck if they don't own a SUV or a mustang.

Movin' on up!
If you read/signed the CCRs before you moved in, you don't have much recourse.

As a life-long Arizonan, I can understand the pool issue - Phoenix has the highest per capita incidents of child drownings in the US and they are very strict about securing pools and hot tubs.

As I have been engaged in house-hunting, for the past year, I won't even consider a development, that has an HOA with ridiculously restrictive CCRs.

I couldn't handle that at all. That's why I ended up buying a house instead of buying or renting a condo. Just way too many rules for me.
Good luck! I hope you can find a much better place.

I understand too, that they are trying to keep things safe! I would feel really bad if a kid would have gotten in and drowned. My boyfriend and my roommate were both sitting down at the pool while I was gone though. Wouldn't a warning have done it though? I mean- why a fine?

I see people down at the pool all the time propping the gate open with a chair, shoes, TABLES! I don't know if they aren't getting caught, or what but they haven't got in trouble. I think they are looking for reasons to get me in trouble, because they don't like me.

Sounds like living on the base! Though I don't think they charge fines, just make whoever the military person is get reamed out by a higher up. I remember us getting a notice when we first moved to this base (back when I was like 12) because our grass was the wrong height. Guess this base has a different requirement than the old one did! Oh and try being a teen and taking a walk after dark to the shopette (before curfew). You'll have a cop follow you around and possibly even stop you and then tell you it's after curfew even though everybody and their Mama knows when it really it. Ah....and DH wanted us to live on base when we got married.....

This is why I can't stand places with all these rules like where you live. I mean be respectful of your neighbors and what not, but don't tell me I must do x, y, and Z! Hope you can get a house soon!
