i want a cat

ok i have two cats, but i had 3 until march 12th when my old girl died, she was almost 20 yrs old

i honestly didnt think i'd want another cat, she had been so much work at the end,
and i have my nell (age 9) and my sheldon (around 4)

they are great cats, but sheldon really loves to play with other cats, and nell isnt interested at ALL

i am just recovering from the expense of a very sick cat, so i know it cant adopt a cat right now and get it vetted and all that

(feeding another cat would not be a problem but vet bills certainly can be overwhelming depending on the health of the cat you adopt, so i'd want to have $$ saved and all that)

ANYWAY
all i do is think about cats, look at photos of cats on petfinder and wish someone would come along and say,
hey, i need to go away for the summer, can you take my cat til i get back?

or something like that
i applied to foster but the only foster opportunities are for feral cats and pregnant cats, and they have to have their own seperate room

i want a cat who can hang out with my cats, and play with my boy, too

ANYONE GOT A CAT THAT NEEDS TO BE FOSTERED FOR AWHILE? who gets along with other cats?
in fact a cat who prefers other cats to ppl would be ideal, as my boy is a bit clingy and would be uspet if i had another cat who was the same way

i live in southern NH
and i am seriously wanting another cat to care for, just cant take the full leap to adopting right now

(also need to be sure that i am not "simply" missing my old girl, and that i truly do want a 3 cat family, not just a cat to fill the void she left)

I had a similar situation. I had one old girl left and had adopted a younger cat cause I thought I needed another cat. He tormented the heck our of her. I didn't know what to do, so I explained it to 3 rescues that I may or may not want another, it would be contingent on if it distracted the young guy from the old girl, and it worked. But they gave me the cat on a trial basis, and if he wouldn't ahve worked out they would have let me try another. Fortunately, they knew exactly who would fill the bill. FAngie!! what a sweetie. Keep trying with the rescues, they may just get a 4 year old male that you could foster w/ intent to keep.
I found the age is the denominator that makes a good transition.

Two of the rescues rejected me, very hoity toity types. "We don't give cats out on loan" The third gave me the cat on a trial basis, and if he wouldn't ahve worked out they would have let me try another. Also, I was so grateful for their help, that when the old girl passed, I fostered a mommy cat and her 4 kittens for 4 months. Pansy is still with us. : )
