Male Kitten biting his sister

Hi,

I have two 8 week old kittens, one male and one female. They play/fight a lot. The male kitten insists on biting the female on the back of her neck and also at the base of her tail. He seems to make a bee-line for her private parts and washes her there.

Their fighting can be a bit boistrous. Should I curtail this? These are house kitties and ideally, I want docile lap kitties rather than a fighting tom and queen!

Thanks.

At that age its more of a dominance thing - sorting out who will be boss cat. I would (to be on the safe side) have them spayed and neutered by 12 weeks old if they are not done yet. No sense in taking chances of her coming into heat early (4 months) and him breeding her. Both male and female kittens can breed that early!

Am definitely getting them spayed - have been advised by the vet at 6mths. However, I've not seen this infatuation with the privates before...be it washing or biting

You are risking her getting pregnant if not spayed by 6 months old by her brother with is NOT a good thing! Please do your best to find a vet to do it at 3-4 months old. If you wait till later, she could be pregnant and your little male could start spraying in the house.

If you cannot find a vet to do them early, then you will have to keep them separated until they are done. And a male can STILL get a female pregnant who is not spayed for a month after he's been neutered!

I am well aware of the dangers of not spaying in time. My question was in regard to the biting/washing. If anyone has any thoughts on this I'd be grateful.

Read my first answer - its more of a dominance at 8 weeks. I'd let them be - however if she doesn't stop him from doing it when it hurts, she MAY be coming into season!

i agree with goldenkitty.
but i also have (neutered/spayed) cats who will do this , they will start play fighting then go on to start washing each others *bits* especialy the brother and sister i have. with some its dominance , with others its just their way.

i know you dont want any advice on this subject but i will say it anyway. im in the UK and all our vets are the same , will not spay untill 6 months.

i had a female start calling at 5 months old and managed to get her spayed that week , they said they didnt want any mishaps. so some will do it a bit earler if you explain the situation. but others will just tell you to keep them seprated from 4 months onwards. which is hard if there very close.
