I was thinking about this when I first woke up this morning.

If you wake up before the alarm (due to animals or other reasons), how many of you go back to sleep? Even if its just 1 more minute or do you just get up anyways?

If it's 5 or more minutes, I'll try to get back to sleep. Usually if it's less than that an act of cat or bladder will get me up anyway
This morning I woke up 10 minutes before the alarm, but Stan decided he wanted to curl up on my pillow and knead my head...there goes that chance. Got up about 5 minutes after I finished rubbing his belly and Bella came over for her morning scritches.

I will fight anyone who tries to wake me up even a second before I officially have to get up

If there's five seconds, I'll try to doze off!
I cherish my sleep... but it makes me late sometimes and it's a habit I really need to break.

I already have to resest my alarm several times before I can get myself out of bed. I guess I sleep pretty deep because if I don't start waking myself up early, I just can't. So not much matters what wakes me up. It takes me a good half hour to 45 minutes after getting out of bed before I'm functioning clearly at all. I mean it's so bad that most mornings I end up standing up, with my top half still laying on the bed because I'm just not there!

Over the river and through the woods...
A lot depends on how "awake" I am. There is awake, then there is: I'm up, I'm moving but my brain is still asleep. If I can form a coherent thought (or even remember what coherent means) then I'm up for good. Otherwise, back to sleep I go.

If it is 15 minutes or less I stay awake, but don't necessarily get up.

My alarm is pretty much unnecessary, because I always wake up before it. My alarm is set for 5:50 am as a sort of emergency back-up; I wake up at 5:30 and head for the shower right away. Sometimes I wake up before the 5:30 mark and let myself drift for a bit, but for the most part my internal alarm clock is pretty infallible. Darn it.

My mother use to tell me all the time, as a kid I hated to go bed and I hated to get up in the morning and that really hasn't changed much over the years. I will always try to go back to sleep but as a lot of others in this thread have posted that is only if the kitties let me.

I try to go back to sleep but if Tiger sees me open my eyes he won't leave me alone so I have no choice to get up.
Miagi usually sleeps on the couch, though and doesn't bother me but I am telling you that Tiger boy is something else! he will slam me with his whole body or rub his mouth up my nose or rub his teeth on my ears and my head.

I almost always get up, especially if it's less than 15 mins until the alarm. Once I wake up, I have a hard time going back to sleep. Of course, I can generally go on 4-5hrs of sleep if I have to. I don't necessarily like it, but can do it.

If I've got an alarm set than I rarely get up before it. I set it at that time for a reason! I may not go back to sleep, but I won't get up. I generally find a kitty and cuddle them for a while

I set my alarm every night but it rarely goes off because I wake up and turn it off. Sometimes it is 15 minutes other times it can be an hour.

It is very hard for me to get back to sleep once I am awake. If it is in the middle of the night I can usually get back to sleep but sometimes not for an hour of tossing and turning. And god forbid Bob sees me awake or he wants immediate pets and has to rub and purr all over me before he will settle down and go back to bed.

My idea of sleeping in on the weekend is 7am and that seems like I slept forever. I am usually up at betwen 4 and 5am on the weekday and up at 6am on weekends.

I wish I could be one of those people that can sleep in

It depends if Kitty is stamping on my head and yelling in my ear

This morning I accidently shut the alarm off instead of 'snoozing' it. Oops!

I always go back to sleep or at least try to before the alarm goes off
(and even after it goes back- i'm bad about hitting the snooze button
)
