Hello, this is Thezookeeper. I just joined about 5 minutes ago. My sister (Ibelonginthezoo) found this forum and thought that it would be good to join. I have had MANY pets growing up (hense my username). The pets I have had over the years include fish, frogs, hermit crabs, 3 rats, 3 rabbits, 4 iguannas, 4 cats. Right now I have 2 cockatiels and in a few weeks will be adopting 2 more cats.

When I was 5 years-old my grandpa came into the house saying that he had found an abandoned kitten in our back yard. We nursed the tiny, weak bundle of black and white fur until it became a strong, wild cat. We named the cat Ring-around-the collar (Ring for short) because she was all black except for some white around her neck. Ring was a wild cat and would not let anyone near her except for my brother, sister and I.

When Ring was about 2 years-old she had 3 kittens. There was 1 boy and 2 girls. My brother named the male kitten after himself (Jason the Cat. We shortened it to JC). My sister and I each claimed the females. I named my kitten Koko (because I LOVED Koko the Gorilia that knew sign-language) and my sister named her kitten Midnight. When the kittens were 8 weeks-old my grandmother forced us to give away one of the kittens. Koko was the one that was chosen to leave. A few weeks after Koko left, Ring disappeared and we never saw her again.

For the next 19-years JC and Midnight became a very much loved part of our family. JC was big (14 pounds) with a heart to match. He was the sweetest, most easy going bundle of fur I ever met. He LOVED to be pet and talked to. He would go to people he was use to and flop down to be cuddled. He rarely meowed but when he did, we couldn't resist to give him what he desired. Other then his sister Midnight, he had 2 other best-friends our rabbits Felicity and Hershey. Felicity and Hershey hung around JC SO MUCH that they thought they were cats. JC would lay next to them and rub noses with them. They would bite his tail and jump all over him. All JC would do was just look at them as if he were an older brother and they were his pesky little sisters. It was so cute seeing a cat and 2 rabbits playing together. JC was heartbroken when Felicity and Hershey died.

Midnight was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of JC. She was small , loud, demanding and always getting into trouble (but we loved her anyway). There were many times when she would disappear for days at a time and then she would show up as if she was never gone. One time she got trapped in a neighbors attic for a week. Another time she got trapped in another neighbors garage for a week. Only she knows what other adventures (or mishaps) she had. She LOVED to be petted (especially if JC was getting attention) and she was a HUGE fraidy-cat.

In May of 2005, after 19 years of blessing our family, Midnight became sick and stopped eating. She died shortly after. JC was devestated with the loss of his sister and life-long friend. JC died 2 months later, in July 2005. They were born together, they lived together and are now burried together. JC and Midnight together forever. We think about them everyday and even though it has been 2 years since they have died, we still miss them terribily.

My grandpa thinks it is now time to adopt 2 more cats. We are going on vacation in a few weeks and shortly after we return, we will be adopting 2 more additoins to our family. This is the reason we joined this forum so we could get tips and advice on having cats in the house again.
