Why *shouldn't* I switch back to crystal litter?

I used to use the crystal litter a few years ago and I cannot for the life of me remember why I changed. I use clumping litter right now, Arm & Hammer, but it's as if it's stopped working on me lately... every time I scoop the clumps shatter and then, of course, the pee is left in the box and it stinks. So I'm really debating going back to the crystals...

The only thing I remember that was negative about it was that it hurt me when I accidentally stepped on a crystal... anything else?

Some cats don't like it...but if Baylee used it before I do not forsee a problem. I love the crystal litter, but not with how many cat's I've got. It doesn't cover the poop smell at all, but if you scoop right away, it'll be fine.

As long as you mix it multiple times a day it's good. I have been mixing the crystals with Tidy cat's blend. There litter just doesn't have enough crystals. I much prefer the crystals than litter because there is no dust or mostly no scent to them. I only tried Tidy Cat & Fresh Step brands. The Fresh Step didn't last as long and it had a stronger odor.

Maybe that was a problem, the not covering up poop smell. Sigh. Good litter is so hard to find.

I tried this stuff a few weeks ago. It seemed to cover the smell. But Charlie didnt like it much. It crunched alot under his feet, he would keep sinking into it, and any of it that was flipped out onto the wooden floorboard scratched them whenever it came time for one of us to clean up, and also hurt my feet.

That's why I combine some Tidy Cat Blends with the crystals. It helps with the poop smell. I also scoop daily.

This weekend at my local supermarket, Tidy Cat had a demo for a new blend that did not crumble. The demo lady was out to lunch and I wasn't going to wait. It might be worth looking into. I had the crumbles, hard to get them out.

I haven't tried the crystal litter but I would think if it hurts our feet, it probably hurts the cat's feet.

I recently switched to the "house brand" of litter from Sam's Club. It's really fine clumping clay litter. I thought it would track pretty badly but it's way better than Tidy Cat. The Tidy Cat was all over the place. And I'm impressed with how it clumps. I haven't had any problems with crumbles, even with 8 cats. It's about $8.50 for 35lbs.
