Hi
As you all know I have got new kitts - and as all you advice was sound I need your help again please!

The problem now is the Dog!!

Tinkerbell and the Dog have always been the best of friends to the extent of sleeping together - but now she has Kitts she is literally pulling the fur out of the dog. I know she is a new mum and will be protective, which is perfectly understandable especially if you met the dog, I know the dog would never hurt them as she loves the cat to peices - however I really do not know what to do here as at the moment Tink and the kitts are shut in a room and tink can only come out when the dog is out or tink will fly at the dog, the dog has fought back but not to the extent that she could.

I think the dog was more interested in the cat food beside the box but she is just as curious about the babies. She has seen the kitts as I held her and let her look in the box and Tink was fine with this in the beginning that was untill the other morning when I let the dog in she made a bee line for the cats food and tink came out attacking her! Now no tolerance is there if the dog even looks at the box - but they still get on when on neutral ground!

Help how do I solve this one!

If this is the mom's first litter, she may feel threatened and will react like that to the dog. Usually by the time the kits eyes start to open and they are moving around on their feet, she will get less protective. Things should be fine between her and the dog when the kits are about 3 weeks old.

At that time, most moms are proud to show off their babies - before them they feel they need to protect

So just keep the dog away from mom so she's not upset. If she gets too upset, she may try to move the kittens.

thanks but too late she has moved them under the bed even though she was shut in a room away from everyone!

So now how do I get her and the kitts out!

Could be shes more worried about the dogs less delibrate actions, ie accidently standing on the kittens or tail hits, if shes anything like our dog the cat will have been hit by the tail a few times (by accident ofc).

As for getting the kittens out as far as I know there is no way, shes claimed the bed
could try usual lures pet food, fav cat bed etc, good luck

push comes to shove I can get them out but I really do not know where to put them - Do I put them back in the box or make up a bigger box I could put her in a different room but will she just move them again!

at the moment they are on laminate flooring which is not the most warmest of floors!

Hiya
Just to let you all know that there is peace in the house again!

The cat is stil under the bed with her kitts - but I can reach them the door to the room is open as I have put a baby gate there so mum can get out but dog cannot get in!

Everything is fine here now

Thanks again x

Excellent,

Isn't it funny how most problems just work themselves out.
