Hi! I have several cats/kittens for adoption. I am located in Southern Illinois if anyone is looking for a new companion. Adoption fee for kittens (less than 1yr old) is $100 and cats is $75. It includes all vetting done, microchip and registration, and 30 days of ShelterCare insurance. Remember, June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month.

Dixie is a black and white, 10-week-old, DMH. She is full of kitten spunk and extremely friendly. She is good with other cats and used to dogs. She is already spayed, had first shots, dewormed, FELV negative, and microchipped.

Pirate is a black and white, 10-month-old, DSH. He was hand-raised from 3 weeks of age. Therefore, he bonds to humans quickly. He is very playful and full of energy but can play rough and would not be good with young children. He is good with other cats and dogs. He is neutered, utd on shots, FELV/FIV negative, and microchipped.

Lexi is a 1-year-old calico DSH. She is a little shy at first but warms up quickly. She never gets enough attention and would make a great lap cat. She is good with other cats and LOVES dogs. She is spayed, utd on shots, FELV/FIV negative, and microchipped.

Candace is a calico DMH at approximately 2-3 years of age. She came in with her own litter of kittens and just finished nursing Dixie's orphaned litter. She will be spayed, vaccinated, and FELV tested before adoption. She is microchipped.

Please let me know if you are interested and would like an application. Please don't forget that there are many great adult cats that are looking for loving homes. I know that kitten season is in full swing, and the adults often get overlooked.

You are so right and it's sad. We're having the same problem down here. That's why when we adopted Reyah, we didn't even look at kittens. We have a kitten, but I'm bottle-feeding her right now and after she's weaned, she'll go up for adoption. We're hoping to find the right adult female DSH to be a companion for Reyah. We're in no hurry, though. We know that when the right match comes along, we'll know it.
Good luck to you on finding homes for these babies. Keep up the good work!

Reyah looks just like Lexi! You might consider adopting an adult male instead. Most of the time, oposite sexes tend to get along better. Just a suggestion and good luck finding the right match!

Well, things have changed since my response to this (if you haven't seen it
). First, I was looking for a female, because for some reason I generally have a lot of problems with my allergies around male cats and really long-haired cats. Since I used to do a lot of rescue (fostered and placed 42 cats in the past), I got a chance to really see which ones I could live with and which ones I couldn't. The medium-length or smooth coated females rarely ever gave me a problem. At that time, I had Smuckers (her story is told in another post) so I wasn't looking for a cat to keep. When I lost her, I didn't bring any more in until Reyah came along.

Anyway, since my last post to you, I've brought in another cat. Hera was turned into the shelter with Reyah. To make a long story short, they were both pregnant, all kittens have been adopted, no one interested in the girls, so a friend of mine was fostering them. Anyway, due to relatives coming in, my friend had to take Hera back to the shelter. The poor girl went crazy. She wouldn't let anyone near her at all, and the shelter wanted to put her down. We intervened and she's here. The speculation is that Reyah is Hera's mom. There is a chance that they are sisters, but they believe mother and daughter. They're doing just fine.
I'm taking them both to be spayed on Tuesday.

That sounds great! Yes, if they are indeed related, they would get along just fine. I am very happy you found a companion for Reyah. Good luck.

Thank you very much.
This definitely wasn't expected. We just couldn't allow Hera to get put down for being scared and stressed. We know that the girls came in together, and that they're related. The shelter just couldn't remember how. Hera is Miss Attitude. She definitely has a much more bossy attitude than Reyah. Reyah is so laid back and nothing bothers her. Hera is just the opposite.
