Microwaves are safe so long as the door fits correctly and you don't stand in front of it while it's on.

Here is a scan of the ovens available in the awards catalogue. They look pretty nice, but my concern is picking the wrong size.

I like the Panasonic one. I guess it depends on how big your portions are. Do you cook anything in the microwave or just reheat? If you just reheat get the smaller one.

It's just me.

I like the look of the Panasonic one too. Less angles to clean and I don't like the handle on the other one.

The only thing I really use a microwave for is to:

1. Cook rice
2. Reheat my frozen meals or left overs
3. Cook veggies
4. Cook up a bowl of oatmeal
5. Maybe boil a cup or two of water
6. Warm up Chynna's dinner
7. Reheat left over coffee
8. Defrost things because I tend to forget to take stuff out of the freezer
9. Make tuna melt sandwiches

Hmmm. I guess I used it more than I thought.

I don't want anything bigger than the one I had. Except for the fact it used up so much of my counter space (I don't have much to begin with), it was the perfect size for me. I think I'll try and get to a store and look at microwave ovens to find out how big .9, 1.2 and 1.6 is and then go from there.

This is what we have
Kenmore
I think the .9 should be fine for you. I am pretty sure mom has 1.6 and it is HUGE.

That one you linked me too is 0.7 cubic feet. For some reason I think that is what mine is.

I need to go to a store and see them in person to determine what size mine is and which one to get.

If they are only $60.00 here, then I'll just buy one instead of using my air miles. I bought mine at "Zellers" in 1990 and the thing cost me over $300.00. Apparently the price of microwaves has come down considerably since I bought mine!

I never think to go to Sears, but I'll go there sometime this month and check out their ovens. Either way I can't do anything until the end of the month, so I'm "old fashioned" for the next couple of weeks!

It's only been a few hours but I'm already missing mine, LOL

Oh yeah you can get 'em that cheap. I just checked the Walmart site and they're selling them as low as $46

I highly doubt it, you just dont want to admit to the fact that mircowaves are bad for you, even though its been proved many many times, you dont want to think about it because you "cant get along without one".

uhhhh no

About 90% of the time I use mine to "defrost stuff". I take frozen meat out of the fridge and then place it in the microwave for several hours until it defrosts. Oh wait I guess that is more to keep the cats away from it

Funny Microwave story..

Several years ago I had bought a small microwave on sale. I was excited as I had not had one when I got divorced and I missed the convience of heating things up or throwing a hotdog in for lunch.

One day I noticed the glass turntable plate was cracked. I asked the kids who of course had no idea what happened

About a week later it would not work. I was pretty upset as it was only a couple months old and I had no money to replace it.

A couple days later I was making some comment about it and my son said well Gennie used it to time stuff in the oven, I was like huh?

Apparently my daughter who prefers to cook stuff on the stove or in the oven would set the microwave for the time it took the oven to cook something and it would run like a timer

It ended up burning up the "plasma" since there was nothing in the microwave for the "radiation" to "radiate" into

It was kind of funny as she had no idea it would do that but she knows now

My mom ended up buying me a new one for Mothers Day and she made sure it had a kitchen timer

Oh yes! I used mine as a timer for all kinds of things. I have the attention span of a peanut lately, so when I put something on the stove or in the oven or freezer, I tend to use the timer on the microwave to remind me about it otherwise there is a good chance I will forget.

lol exactly......its radiation, which is why when I stopped using mine and have to use it on very rare occassions I always regret it because it makes me feel sick and get headaches. If you dont use microwaves for a long time, you no longer have that plasma and radiation in your system, and when you have it in you all the sudden you feel sick. The same goes for my fiance and his brother.

The Goodwills in my area won't accept microwaves, nor any appliances. I've even seen them reject them when another customer brought one in.

How about WalMart? Their prices are usually the cheapest. If you don't need a standard-sized one, I think you can get a small one for about $25-$30.

I will NOT turn this into a IMO thread
but according to the news and all, just about EVERYTHING today will give you some form of Cancer or will kill you.

As far as getting along without one, I did for about a month until we learned that microwaves have fuses.
