I have a long haired(not too long...) cat who stays outside and is loosing fur recently... At first, I thought she was just getting rid of that winter coat, but I can see where she has a few bald spots now and I'm a little concerned. :\\

Didn't know where to put this thread, so sorry.... >_>

Loss of hair can be caused by many different things- Your best bet is to bring her into the vet and get her checked out. The vet will be able to rule out anything serious, and discuss treatment with you from there. Good luck, please keep us updated

hah, thanks for the reply. I was stressed about the whole thing and couldn't find anything on the net, so I joined a cat forum. =3

However, I've now come across something that states what all could be the problem. *sigh* I hope it isn't something too serious. I'll be taking her to the vet as soon as I can.

Has your cat been stressed recently? One of ours lost a fair bit when we got a dog, stopped once they got use to each other.

numerous reasons for losing fur is arthritis (chewing away at the sore spots), ringworm (check for red, flakey rings/patches and a ricey ring around the anus), stress (many factors, new/loss of another animal, new animal on territory, moving house etc), flea infestation and for charlie that led to psychogenic alopecia (ocd fur licking), any change in diet or a bad reaction to a new food. and as there are so many reasons, it is a very wise idea to send your kitty to the vet as soon as you can.
