...to be euthanized tomorrow morning! Kinda makes a person want to go to work in the morning, right? I'm working tomorrow at the HS. There's a 6 months Black Lab there, likely purebred. She's got mange(non contgious) insanely bad. So bad, that she hurts all the time, she's got massive infection going on, she bleeds if she gets outside for too long. She's miserable.

I wish I would have brought her home, I toyed with the idea. I decided she'd hurt herslef too much. Tomorrow, I hope she doesn't have to go to the vet first thing, I want to take her to the park or something.

I've had to take cats in before, but never a puppy. They asked me if I could do it, & yes.....I have to harden my heart and do this. It is what's best for the poor baby.
I just wish the scum that we cannot call her "owners" knew what was gonna happen to this angel tomorrow. She is so darn sweet.

Say a prayer for this baby tonight, it's her last.

i am sorry that you have to do this. It can not be easy for you at all.
But i take it that nothing can be done for the puppy?

Oh that is so sad, I would not be able to sleep tonight.

I will say a prayer for this puppy.

I really really really wish that there was something that could be done for this puppy.

This is just so sad, I wish I would not have read this thread.

We have been treating her, but i's going to be at least 4 months. Right now, she cannot be outside for even 5 minutes before she blisters & bleeds. She itches so bad she scratches & makes it worse. It's all over her head, front legs, spots on her back, neck.....just everywhere. It covers 40% of her body.

So, they can't treat the puppy for 4 months?

And if she can't be outside then I wouldn't take her outside.

And if she itches, there is medicine for itching.

I just don't understand this at all.

Right now, it's about quality of life. That is what we look for. Is what is their quality of life? Her's is zero. She is miserable all the time. She wants so badly to be touched, yet touching her causes intense pain. We are all for the humane treatment of animals, & to let this little angel go on in such pain in inhumane.

I guess there will be people who do not feel this is the right decision. I myself do not know, but it is not up to me. I just count my blessings that we do not have to euthanize healthy puppies on a regular basis.

Poor baby
Four months of pain and scratching to a young dog could really damage her emotionally - she may grow to hate having people touch her, and start associate being touched, or going outside with pain and therefore completely change her demeanor.

It's horribly sad, but yes - it is about quality of life.

Here and there
I wish it didn't have to be that way, but I understand it's the best thing for her.

If you can, if you take her to the park, buy her a hamburger from McDonald's. My doggy really likes them, but you have to take the pickles off.

and tell her she's loved.

That is so sad, but I do have to agree that it is the kindest thing on her, at least she has people who show her love. RIP little one.

I guess this is just too hard for me to understand, I just would never give up on an animal, as long as there was a chance. But that is just the way that I am.

We treated our beloved Sambo for a long time with his different ailments before we had to put him to sleep. And the only reason we did that was because the vet told us it looked like his body was shutting down.

There are days when I would give everything I own just to be able to hold him in my arms again. So when I read a story like this, is just hurts.

I am so sorry you have to do this. Mange is not a fun thing to deal with, in an adult dog. I couldnt imagine it in a puppy the poor sweet little thing. It is about quality of life. thats for sure. Its to bad she couldnt possibly get a foster home who may be able to moe agressively treat the mange. But if her pain is that bad....sadly this is the best thing. Vibes and love.

Oh dear. Oh dear. You poor love. And a little black Lab...oh my, I can see why you are so upset.

But, you have to believe this is the best thing for this poor little baby. She sounds like she is miserable and no living creature deserves to have pain and infection that bad. Plus all of the emotional trauma that must go with it.

Lots of thoughts and hugs to you, Nat, and this little sweet baby. Thank goodness for people who give so much of their love and time to our creatures in need. Animals need more friends like you.

Poor little thing. Good luck to you with bringing her - that will be so difficult. I hope that you can get her to the park 1st.

It's never easy
I hate having to pts puppies. We've had yet ANOTHER parvo scare this week
We had to put down 3 the other day it was so sad. Yet another reason people must vaccinate their animals. We had a puppy (probably 3 mo.) come in this week in the same position as the lab pup you were talking about hon. IT was a little tan (we think!) pit puppy covered head to toe in mange- there was NO fur at all left on it- even it's eyelids were aweful. It was bleeding everwhere and could bairly move. As much as i hate to see an animal put down- that was the kindest thing we could do for that little lamb. (the vet happened to be in at the time and said that it was too far gone- we were going to try everything to save it- but it was 1/2 dead when it was found. Poor pup- at least now though it's not in pain.I share that story just to let you know how bad mange can be if allowed to spread (i'm sure you already know)- it can get to a certain point where it absolutely kills them- it sounds like that's what's going on with your shelter pup. I am glad you've agreed to help this animal by humanly trying to end it's pain and suffering. I know it's NEVER an easy decision- but sometimes as hard as it is, it is in the best interest of the animal
I'm only a pm away gorgeous

Poor puppy and poor you

I believe that sad as it is, it is the only option. If the treatment would stop the pain within a week, that would be different, but 4 months is a very long time of an important developmental stage for this puppy.

And as someone with chronic joint pain, neuralgia, and an old back injury I can assure you that pain meds do not make everything alright and normal, especially if the pain is severe. Mostly they just take the edge off and make you not care about the rest of it that you can still feel, because you're high. That is not a good quality of life, and how would this now sweet puppy turn out as an adult having missed out on that all important socialisation and training, and has only known pain for so long?

I honestly believe that this is for the best for this little one
