Oh my goodness, wouldn't that be fabulous?!? I have been having some icky menstrual breakouts and the occassional stress blemish lately and my current face wash just doesn't seem to be cutting it anymore... I think I am going to order some of the Proactiv stuff you see the commercials for on tv... BF's sister started using it and her skin has greatly improved... Also my roommate has been using it for almost 3 years now and his skin is practically flawless compared to what it used to be... Hopefully, it will work for me too

My sister tried Proactiv for about 6 months...It made her face dry and worse off than it was before... She has severe acne and decided to try Proavtiv because she doesn't have insurance anymore! I wish she would have returned it because it is a gaurenteed product and she could ahve gotten her money back... Nothing is ever 100% gaurenteed and that is why Im glad they had a return policy (eventhough she didnt take advantage of it)... The kit cost her I think $60-65 a month and wasn't worth a single penny! Some people it works wonders on and others not so much! I wish when something was gaurenteed it was just that.... Gaurenteed! Good luck, I hope that it works for you, I never tried it because it costs too much when I can have perscribed meds for cheaper (through insurance)! I usually find products that aren't specified to specific skin conditions but are rather specified to "everyone" as a whole to be ineffective (one formulation vs a variety)... What works on one wont necessairly work on another... One formulation (like pro activ) cannot simply meet the needs of all the various skin types and issues... Hence why I say it works great for some and not so much for others... As is the same for any product!

I was prescribed the differin gel a few years ago and it jut dried my face out really bad, and did nothing to help my breakouts

I've had really good results with this cleanser from Avon's Mark line, its called "Keep it Clear for Misbehaving Skin" After almost 5 years of bad acne my skin is finally calming down! I feel like I went thru a really late puberty (I'm 29) cause I never had these probs as a teen

cetaphil is really gentle...
anti-acne products w/ benzoyl peroxide can cause bleaching of fabric...

MAKE SURE you use SUNBLOCK!! a lot of the acne skin products help speed turnover of skin cells, so your face is going to be sensitive to the sun (why have wrinkles, burn, sun spots + acne, right?). Some of the oral antibiotics for acne also increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight.

and make sure YOU ARE NOT PREGNANT!! or are NOT going to get pregnant b/c some of the anti-acne products contain things that may be harmful to the fetus, esp. Accutane & other retinoic acid derivatives. And if you're trying NOT to get pregnant, some people say their skin gets better w/ low dose oral contraceptives, but not all derms agree.

The cetaphil doesn't bleach my clothes because it has no acne fighting agents in it, however I just started using a generic version of Triaz (which is a 6% benzoyl peroxide formula) so I will watch my clothes careful around that stuff! I was using the Cetaphil sunblock lotion but had to take a break for a few days (wasn't moisturizing enough) and I am using the moisture lotion because my skin is so dry (due to the fact that I just started these formulas)! I don't tan anyway (not on purpose) I am SO fair skinned that all it gives me is sunburns and more freckles... No attractive benefits there!

As for washing my face with just water
Won't work here because I wear make-up, though I have heard alot of people use "just water" and they have great skin...

As for pregnant... No way and not planning it anytime soon... All my products have warning saying not to use if pregnant or planning, good thing they list that on there!

As for my birth control, it doesn't help (generic version) like suggested!

I have acne.

I take a B5 vitamin supplement.

I also use two different types of acid. Weekly use I use a 40% latic acid gel.
Once a month I use 12.5 % TCA. This has helped me with my cystic acne.

I do wash my face with a baby brush and a tea tree soap bar.

The best thing though that I have discovered, that works like a charm. That only cost ten flippin dollars is Alpha Hydrox AHA souffle'. This is why my skin glows. I also believe it to be the most helpful in clearing up red marks.

Thank you... I will check into that for my sister! She has severe acne, not so much cystic but many all over (mainly on here cheeks), she has some scarring and pits, which is such a bummer because she is SO beautiful... yet people don't see that because they dont see past her acne! She use to be on the forumlation I am on except she took pills (they were daily pills... Not accutane)... It helped a little but not much... She tried Proactiv and Mirad... no results! She has no insurance at the moment therefor she is stuck in this situation.

Tea tree is a wonderful thing... It has many healing properties... It is great for sunburns, acne, dandruff, etc.... The list goes on!

I did get my meds to update... Cost me only ten dollars. They did not give me the name brand cleanser Triaz... instead they gave me a generic version of it (apparently most insurance companies wont cover triaz, would have cost me 40 bucks... I'll pay the $10 instead)! So for $10 I got 45 gram Differin Gel and my Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser! That is do-able!

I second using sun block- specifically facial sunblock for your face. I'm quite fond of the Clinique facial sunblock and Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for a moisturizer. They are both great with oily skin, if that's an issue for you.

I cannot use Clinique products at all... They make me break out something nasty. I do not have oily skin, its more t-zone combination oily/dry! I returned the whole Clinique line that I had purchased (tried using it for about 3 months) and was refunded in whole because of what it did to my face! The moisturzer especially made a mess of my face, i've never broke out so bad in my life, apparently alot of people I know had the same issues with the line and others a great success. I do have great skin, it has just had some issues this last year and needs a little help (store boughts arent cutting it), I really shouldn't complain because people have it much worse i.e. my sister!
