Sometimes I really wonder how mens' minds work!
I think he works on the Golden Retrevier principle.

I'm not a good liar but if my dear husband gave me something like that, I'd smile and kiss him and thank him. Then I'd wear it on Halloween, handing out candy, with a long dress and hat. (If the colors were too bright I'd probably tone it down with a weak dye wash.) Hopefully it's cotton, right?

I agree with the rest, smile and be grateful, he did think of you. Trying to think like a guy and figure this out will take you down a very, bad and dark path....don't do it.
When you wear it, rub some catnip on it to entice certain feline creatures to love it up a lot and wear it out prematurely. Maybe the DH will see something like this again in the future and think: "Nice, but the cats will like it again, I better not." Hey, it might just work.

It is too hot in June to be wearing sweaters. I'd tell him thank you and you'll keep it for Halloween time. Then incorperate it into a costume somehow (even if its HIM wearing the thing).

In a few years it can end up in the goodwill bag
ORRRRRRR be part of a scarecrow outfit for Halloween decorations.

This is DH's suggestion - wear it out next time you two go somewhere, then complain its too hot to be wearing it and hand it over to him to carry.

OMG this is too much! My MIL picked it out!

He just got home and explained that I DON'T have to wear it. Oh, when she comes over next I am totally putting it on and I'll dress it up too!

I'm off to find the matching hat!

Now THAT explains a lot now, doesn't it???

My MIL bought me the most HIDEOUS granny nightgown/robe for X-mas last year...I told myself..."Not in a million years." And then I find myself loafing about the house in it yesterday.

That sounds like the same nightgown my Dad buys me every year for Christmas.

You don't want to appear ungrateful or hurt his feelings. Pretend, pretend, pretend
I think that this was a great post, it was the thought that counts.

My husband has bought me stuff before that I didn't like, but I still thanked him for it and I even wore stuff before.

I know how that feels!
My hubby bought me a tshirt that has the Maori Haka on it - he is American and he thinks that having the maori language on a tshirt is so cool. But when you are a kiwi, it isn't.

This is so funny!

I'm so glad my boyfriend doesn't just randomly buy me stuff. He lets me pick things out and then buys it for me. My future MIL has pretty good taste, I have borrowed some of her clothes before and she has bought me clothes for Christmas and I always like them.

AMEN! It's so sweet that he wanted to do something nice for you. He didn't actually succeed, but he tried!

My Mom often laughs about the pair of panties that her MIL gave her at her wedding shower. They were too big. (It even pissed Dad off that his mother would do that!) Mom thanked her and put them in the bottom of her underwear drawer. Int he final month of her pregnancy with me she pulled them out and finally wore them.

We both had a big laugh when I tried it on. It's HUGE!

For something that is so ugly it sure has brightened my day.
