Rules apply to everyone. You should've gotten a tutor or asked for help. Too bad, so sad.
What do you think of "fail a class, no sports" or "lower than X amount GPA, no sports"?
As a former athlete, I full heartedly endorse the fail a class, no sports punishment. In today's society, most specifically the US, are focusing way too much on sports and not enough on education. I ALWAYS put school before tennis. I knew that tennis would only get me so far, but my education would get me further. I was always criticized by my coach in college for caring more about my grades than tennis. I told my coach the same thing, tennis will only get me so far, but my education will give me a career. I could understand his point of view, but I don't think it was fair that I got treated so unkindly when others on the team were drinking, and do other things that were truly something to be punished for.
I also think that kids rely too much on sports to get them anywhere. The only way they will ever learn to work at their education is to take away the one thing they really work hard for and for a lot of kids, that is sports, because that may be the only thing they are good at.
I really think that they deserve to be punished if they fail because it will hopefully encourage them to find any means possible to improve so that they may return to playing sports. But it will also teach them to work towards goals in the future that may not always be handed to them.
