Went to target looking for a comb for max in particular(hes persian mix and mats very easily) I saw a groomng kit for about 7$ in the cat section but loked in the dog section as I only wanted the comb. I found one for 4 and appears to be a slightly larger version of the cat kit one. It is a bit large but perfect for adult cats and the teeth slide so easily through his hair. and the rest of the gang enjoy being combed.

I always use a comb on my Persian, never a brush. He has never had a mat nor a hairball one. I comb him every day. Once in a while I brush Alley with a brush. It sounds like you got a good deal and what you needed with your Persian mix.
