Hi everyone, I am brand new here and have a question.
A stray cat that adopted our porch as it's home 3 months ago just gave birth to three kittens two days ago. She looked like she was going to have at least 6, but only the three.
Everything was fine yesterday, but today she is all wet again like she was before she had the first kitten. Is it possible that she has retained a kitten, and is now having it? From everything I've read, this is dangerous.
Also, she seems thinner today then she did yesterday. She was still a bit swollen looking and feeling yesterday, but today she almost looks gaunt and malnourished.
One more thing, today, she hasn't been in feeding the kittens very much, she has been out and about, and she is very lethargic and lazy. She was eating good yesterday, and is drinking today, but I have not seen her eat today.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Lena.

She could have retained a placenta, maybe aborted or delivered a dead kitten. If you can, get her to the vet as soon as possible. She could have infection building which would account for the symptoms today.

All of the above could be true, but it's not uncommon for a queen to have up to 24 hours between kittens. Some people think it's because they're delivered from the two different uterine horns. Either way..

The lethargy and laziness is of concern. If that much time has elapsed between births, and she's all wet from another sac, you really should call the vet.

I agree and say take mommy to the vet asap. Actually maybe take mommy and the babies to the vet. Sounds like they might be in trouble. You are wonderful to be taking care of a stray and her babies. I hope everything goes well and please keep updating.
