I should post my pics of the nasty stuff that comes out of my bagless vac! I'm not kidding, there's enough fur each time, I could make cat #10, instead of waiting for the next stray to show up on my doorstep! Luckily, I installed wood laminate flooring 2 years ago, and, except for 2 bedrooms, which DH insisted on carpeting, only have 2 large area rugs to vacuum. (I sweep the flooring, and Swiffer it.) I use my vac in conjunction with my Dust Buster (especially on the stairs--which used to be carpeted; we removed that, painted them, and put carpeted stair treads there. I can removed those, and wash them every so often.) When I obtained cat #3, I got fed up with wall-to-wall carpet! Hobbes has accidents (he get scared of loud noises, such as thunder), plus he's very old. That's why I installed the laminate and tile flooring. It makes an extra cleaning step, but I don't have to worry about urine seeping into the flooring, and leaving a smell.

Other folks kid-proof their houses; I had to cat-proof mine...

Even so, I'm seriously considering the Dyson. I don't think my area rugs get clean enough.

I get a lot from my bag less vacuum but now I really want a Dyson Animal! I'll even start up a new savings account to put money in for a Dyson!

How well does it handle stray cat litter? What's the noise level? (Goodness knows, my neighbors probably hate my vacuum because of the noise!
)

I have the Dyson Animal D17.
It picks up stray cat litter beautifully, is relativly easy to move and it's noise is not louder than a regular vacuum.

Is it better than the Rainbow??? I have a Rainbow thats 20 some odd years old and a Hoover thats from 79! (its older than me!) We've been through ALOT of vaccuums and for some reason the two oldest we have seem to be the best! The problems with the rainbow is that the water in it makes it a problem because its not like you can flush it down the toilet after sucking up a whole cat! If you dump it outside it stinks and leaves giant furballs all over! So you end up having to stick your hand in the water and get the furr out just to be able to drain the darn thing!! Im always on the look out for a GREAT new vaccuum! (Ive probably spent a good 5 grand on vaccuums in the last 8 years)

The girl from homecare who comes to clean for me loves my Dyson! She said it's the most quiet vacuum she's used. It's also incredibly easy to push around a rug. It seems to just glide over it without any effort.

So far as Rainbow vacuums go, I'm surprised that they are still in business! What an incredibly dumb idea of having water inside a vacuum that you have to then empty! Way too messy and if you don't empty it everytimie you use it, the vacuum really stinks!

Oh yeah, $3000 for a rainbow vaccuum! If you forget to empty it you will be sorry! Its terrible! The problem is Ive never seen a vaccuum suck things up better than anything else! I had the people come into my home, they had me vaccuum 50 times in one spot with my vaccuum and then 10 with the rainbow and the rainbow sucked way more stuff up even after I vaccuumed 50 times with my other one! It was incredible! So all info on the one you're talking about is good by me!!

My brother talked about an Rainbow vacuum but I've never seen them before. So, now I'm curious as to how a Rainbow will compare to a Dyson? ... The Dyson would probably win.

I have NEVER heard of a Rainbow vacuum.

Sorry Betsy to take this to a Rainbow promo, but I think it doesn't matter what vacuum you have as long is You're happy with it!

I love my rainbow, wouldn't want to change to anything else! But as someone said, it's an investment, not an indulgence!

Totally makes sense to me, wet dust CAN'T fly, but boy, I thought my Dyson was expensive at what I paid, and I got a bargain!

I'm absolutely loving my Dyson Animal.

My the girl from homecare who comes to clean loves my vacuum too. She has 6 cats and told her husband that their next vacuum is going to be a Dyson Animal!

I'm glad I got mine when I did. I got it free using my Air Miles. But I looked at the site recently and they no longer offer it. I think they have a Hoover there now.

I'm absolutely thrilled with my Dyson!. It's easy to use and it's so easy to empty. One hand is all you need and you never touch the dirt. Just remove the cannister, put the cannister inside a bag and press a button. Shake gently. Close the bottom of the cannister and snap the cannister back into the machine. No fuss and no mess.

And what I love about it even more is that with the flip of a dial you can go from carpet to bare floors without having to pull out a hose and dig out attachments. It's great!

I like it so much that if I had the money I'd buy the company!

I recently bought a Polti steam cleaner (ebay, cheap) - and it is the best house-clean purchase I've ever made. With six cats and two dogs....................need I say more? More than anything else, it's so incredibly easy to use - lightweight - and deep cleans just about everything in minutes. Tiles, carpets, curtains, mattresses, cookers - I just bought one for my ma-in-law who has a very smelly and constantly muddy dog. (They live in the country). A brilliant invention.

My mom owns her own cleaning service- she used to use a Rainbow years ago- that thing was insanely expensive and quite messy to constantly have to unload the icky water from it. It did a good job of cleaning though and was good on allergies. I'm not sure if they still make them or not!

Colin recently bought me a Dyson Animal DC-17 and it in my opinion it is a much better technology and picks up a lot better than the old raibow my mom had.

You sound like me. I got a (Kärcher) steam cleaner eight and a half years ago, and I don't ever want to do without one again.

One of the department stores here had Dyson canister vacuums on sale last week and, once again, I was so tempted to get one. My mom has the (upright) Dyson Animal, so I know how powerful they are. I was looking at the model for parquet/hard floors, which is what we have, and the saleslady asked if I had any carpets. I told her we had a large handmade Oriental rug, and a couple of smaller ones, and she advised against a Dyson, saying that it would wreck handmade rugs. Thus, I didn't give into the impulse to buy one.
