Hi guys

Be really grateful for any advice.

Two weeks ago we got 2 kittens, one was the runt of the litter and I posted on here about helping her go to the toilet. After numerous visits to the vet and lots of things tried out, she still didn't go. The vet thinks she had a blockage inside. She died on Sunday night and we are still devasted.

Her brother is a healthy kitten and has no problems at all. Since the loss of his sister we have put his bed in our room. He misses her so much and cries for her so we didn't want to shut him downstairs on his own.

The thing is, he won't go downstairs without us. He also wakes up and wants to play. I realise this is totally to be expected, however, when he has woken up we have on occasion taken him downstairs where he has a wee and eats and drinks. When he comes back up he pretty much chills out and goes to sleep. When we don't take him downstairs he goes totally crazy for about an hour!

Are we going to create a really bad habit by getting up with him (usually about 3am!) and taking him downstairs? Will he grow out of it or expect it forever? Should I be shutting him downstairs away from us?

I just want to do the right thing by him and I also want to get some darn sleep!!!

Hope you can help.

I am very sorry for your loss. I know right now that it may be hard but maybe you might consider getting a little playmate for your other kitten. That might help you get some sleep and make the little guy feel better

So sorry to hear about the girl kitten. RIP little one!

Why not have a temporary food/water/litter box in your room? Once he's older, he'll be able to take care of these things himself. I agree with the idea of getting a second kitten. All the reasons you got siblings/two kittens in the first place still hold true. I know it's hard to consider at this point, but it's good for them to have a companion, and they do entertain themselves better when they have a buddy.

Good luck!
