Just wondered what it's like and whether I should have one. My teeth are classed as really crooked, but I'm not to keen on a brace. I don't mind it if they stay the same but... I saw an orthodontist (specialist) who said they won't get even more crooked, and another one who said they will get so bad I will start to lose digestive biscuits between my teeth by the time I'm 40!
Should I just put up with a brace to benefit my future health?

I had braces when I was a kid
. Didn't enjoy it, but didn't hate it, either. But these days they have fancy braces like the invisalign and clear braces to prevent/minimize the "metal-mouth" look
. (Didn't Tom Cruise have adult braces a couple years back? And doesn't that supermodel Gisele admit to wearing those invisalign braces?)

Teeth are kinda weird. If yours are "normal", no one seems to notice. But if they're crooked, EVERYONE notices. And what the dentists say about problems chewing makes sense.

I got braces when I was 24 years old. I am sooooo glad I did! My teeth were horribly over-crowded. I worked soo hard to get them that I was sad when they had to come off early!! I miss them, kinda.
But very expensive--my insurance wouldn't cover them because they are considered cosmetic.

I wish I had had braces when I was younger. The dentist recommended it because my teeth were too crowded but my parents couldn't afford it. Now, I am having so many dental problems because of it. My wisdom teeth were impacted because they had no place to come in, and I've had to have multiple teeth filled or pulled because the way they rested against each other it caused cavities to form at the gum line. I would highly recommend getting them. It's only for a few years and they do have newer ones that aren't as obvious and, from what I understand, pretty comfortable. Good luck!

My brother had braces, and it was the best money my parents ever spent! They have invisilign braces now, that are invisible, thats what I'd get if I had to get braces now

I have braces now. July will be three years and I should have had then off in November, but they are not lining up as they should be, so I have to wait a bit longer! I don't care how long as long as I don't have more teeth pulled!

Husband had braces for three years (as an adult) and jaw surgery where they broke his jaw to realign it. He said it was worth it since his choice was braces now or dentures later!

I'd get the braces, too. They're not great but it's for a short time compared to decades with false teeth which are even less great. Good luck with what you decide.

Well I had braces and it was worth it. My teeth were crooked and we had to make room for my wisdom teeth. I actually liked the experience so much I kept my braces and wires (all still connected) after I got them off.

We never had the option of braces due to finances. Luckily, we all had pretty straight teeth. I have a gap between my front teeth I used to wish was smaller. Now I don't mind too much.

I think a crooked tooth adds a bit of character to a person's face. It seems that nowadays everyone has exactly the same smile.

If I had crowded teeth and could get braces, I definitely would! Teeth are so important

Ok so back in the day, I went to this dentist who seemed to have messed up my mouth so when he said he wants to put braces on me I FREAKED
And now I wish I would have just switched doctors, the only ones I would get though would be the invisiligne stuff but, I have an over bite and well my teeth are pretty straight besides that jus a lil crooked! But I would say go for it, if it benifits you then I would go for it! I am trying to get my dad to get dental insurance again (he had canceled it when I refused to go to that dentist
) But I am not sure if our insurance then would have covered it!

You can get the kind that go behind the teeth so they aren't visible - more expensive however. I had them for 4 years - hated them, but well worth the aggravation!

I should have had braces, no money though. One or the other of my kids have been in braces, I wish I could have but they come first. Are you less than pleased with your smile?(must be so for you to have a consultation with an orthodontist). I would do it now, if you can afford it, so when your older when you have kids and a house etc, you won't say to yourself 'I wish I would have'. Plus, when your older you won't want to have a bunch of dental procedures. I've heard that a persons teeth move alittle as they age, so braces sound like they will be a preventive measure.
