My friend gave me a kitten yesterday (her name is Saedie), we aren't exactly sure how old she is. We know she is at least 6 weeks but definitly not at 12 weeks. The momma cat stopped feeding two of the 4 kittens so I took in Saedie.

What kitten foods would you most recommend? And is there anything else I should do for her since she is a little young to be taken from her mother?

Welcome to TCS Brittany!!

First thing I suggest is a vet visit. I would deworm, treat for fleas, & test for Feline Leukemia & FIV. Also, a general check up is good & the vet can give you an age.

Never use flea/tick products or dewormer that is OTC, go to the vet for those. OTC meds often do not work & can be harmful.

As for food...if you browse the forums, you will find tons of info. A quick crash course....grocery brands aren't that good. I would look into a pet store. A few good brands are :
Chicken Soup(cheap)
Innova
California Natural
Natural Balance
Nature's Variety
Eagle Pack
Wellness
Nutro(reasonbly priced)

Welcome. Also for kitty litter, don't use a clay litter please, especially with a little one. It is dusty and they can inhale that dust which can then collect moisture and form clumps in their lungs.

A corn based litter such as World's Best Cat Litter or Swheat Scoop would be better since they sometimes like to taste-test the litter and the corn based ones won't hurt them.

As the above poster replied, a vet visit is first order of the day - for overall checkup, deworming, vaccinations and any flea medications if needed.
