Uploading Personal Avatars/Giving Gifts

Okay, here are two really stupid questions...

How do I upload my own personal avatar? I've gone through all my options in the User CP and I can only use one of the provided ones. Help!

How do I give gifts? I can't figure out how! Much appreciated!
