My mom signed papers on a house down the street today. Once she received the keys she went over to go clean a bit, and saw a momma cat nursing 3 babies in the back garden under the tree.

Mom didnt go outside to get close, the momma cat was pretty skittish, but I've given her my digital cam to bring me some pics if she's still there with the babies.

If I get pics, I'll post em.

My mom's gone out to get some kitten food and little dishes for water for momma cat and the kittens.

She says the momma cat looks like a tortie color, and that the kittens are one ginger, one grey and one little white runty looking one.

She couldnt get close enough for pics yet, but will keep trying without stressing out the little furry family.

Tamarae....could you borrow a humane trap and trap mom and kittens and bring them indoors?? That way, you could ensure that mom is spayed once the kittens are weaned and you could also make sure that nothing bad happens to the kittens. Yes...kittens are cute, but please have a plan to spay mom so she doesn't become pregnant again. You should be able to borrow a humane trap from a local humane society or even a TNR organization.

I'm hoping so, going to talk to my mom about maybe doing that, especially if the kitties all continue to hang around her yard.

Turns out there's 5 kittens, not just 3. 2 ginger, 1 calico, 1 brownish tabby and something else. Got a few pics but they're not very good, kittens are maybe 6-8 weeks old from my guess.

As she's just moving in this coming weekend, I'll see if she'd be willing to trap and see if there's a low cost spay/neuter here locally. It'd be good of her to do

They didn't look horribly skinny, so I'm wondering if the momma cat didn't belong to someone in the neighborhood and just got out or something. Hope to find out as my mom meets her new neighbors.

My house when we bought it also came with cats. Kalli, Punkin (who they ended up taking with), and Kandee(who left and never came back).
Good luck catching them/taking care of them!
I cant wait for pics, how old do you think they are?

I'm not sure honestly, but I'd guess maybe 6 weeks old or so. They're fluffy, but up and running around and cute as little bugs.

They'll get up and pounce momma cat and knock her down trying to nurse, but they also eat the canned and dry food mix we've been putting out and drinking water from the water pan we set out. The food and water pans have been moved back toward the back door a little bit each feeding so now they're eating up on the porch, and if we sit quietly right inside the back door they wont dart away.

If I can get my blood pressure to stay down for a few hours, I'll see if I can run down to mom's house and get some good pics, the pictures she brought me werent good at all.

So far I've seen a calico, what looks like a brown female tabby (with spots instead of stripes), a ginger colored kitty and a white one with an orangish tail.

Mom really wants to try to tame at least the calico and bring her in the house when she's a little older. That should be an experience in itself.

Sorry for the lack of response, I had an emergency c-section last weekend.

Turns out the momma cat and kittens must have more than 1 home. Mom's been moved in for over a week now and sees them from time to time, feeds them when they're about, but she's not sure where they're actually "living". Seems they were only in her yard for a few days.

They don't look like they're starving really, and momma cat still treks through my mom's backyard, but they're not living in the bushes or behind the shed like we thought they were.

Still watching out for them and their wellbeing though.

The one time I snuck down to her house and saw the kittens, they look to be about 6-8 weeks old. They eat real food just fine but momma cat hasnt completely weaned them yet. They will knock her down to nurse though, it was kinda funny to watch 3 or 4 of them pounce on her when she came near.
