I have started to take up the carpeting in my house, actually just the tack strips and staples, the carpet is still coveirng the floor. I want to throw out this big piece of carpet and clean the floor underneath (it's disgusting) what can I use that won't hurt the girls? Thanks

I used water mixed with vinegar; it gave our floors a nice glossy sheen, and vinegar doesn't hurt the kitties (I use vinegar for cleaning most things). I've heard Murphy's Wood Oil recommended before, but I don't know whether or not it's safe for use in homes with critters and/or small children.

Murphys oil soap. Its safe. Ya could drink it if ya wanted to, but I doubt it would taste any good.

Murphys Wood Soap is the best to use after taking up carpeting. We just did this a couple weeks ago in our living room and I was on my hands and knees with a scrubby sponge and a bucket of hot water mixed with the Murphys stuff. It worked amazingly and its safe for kids and animals. Just dont run across the floor afterwards...We watched out basset do some amazing sprawls across the floor afterwards. It was pretty funny!

We also used vinegar and hot water. Cheap and worked the best!
