Hi,
I have a feral female living at my house. She had 2 kittens 6 wks. ago. I've just taken the kittens in to ween them, and get them ready for adoption at some point.

How long will it take for the mom to dry up so I can capture her and have her fixed?

I've had cats all my life but have never taken care of feral cats. Actally the kittens arn't completely wild because I've handled them anytime I could get close to them. Just need to make sure when the mom is ready for fixing.

Thanks for any advise!

The vets I use around here will fix them whether they are lactating or not. But be aware that while you wait, you can almost guarentee that she will get pregnant again, so you will have to worry about being charged for a spay/abort, unless she is just at the very beginning of pregnancy.

Also, is the mother really feral? Do you see her? If she sticks around just runs whn you try to approach her, she is probably just a stray. If you brought her inside, she might end up being friendly once you socialize her a bit. Plus if she isn't too feral, the babies are kind of young to leave her.

Hi Jen,
I guess technically she's a stray, but a very smart difficult to catch stray. I've been trying to work with her for a long time. She does not trust people. I set traps for her with every kind of bait imaginable, no go.

I have just recently got her to come close to eat. I won't feed her unless she's willing to come close. I will get my hands on her!!. I have to be gone for a week next week, but my hubby will be here. I have an appt. for the mom June19th to get fixed.

I was just hoping that she would be dried up by then, but hey, she's going in!
Lord, that's all I need to hear that she can get PG again right away. GROAN. I'm in rural WY, and we have only 1 vet here. Anyhow wish me luck. She's got to get fixed come hell or high water.
