Thankfully I didnt say to her what was on my mind though I did try finding her. So she never knew I was thinking of adopting from her in order to help her problem. I went to my dad told him about it and he said having four cats would be illegal here in St. paul.
Your dad could fill out the proper form for having more. per city ordience. I know i have one.

Actually, there is a limit for domestic residences. I think it's 12 or a figure round about there, but I think it's down to local authorities as to whether they implement that or have a different figure. If you have that many you could be considered a rescue and would have to apply for planning permission to change the use of your property from a private residence to a rescue.

Any combination of 3 cats and dogs over the age of 6 months without a fanciers license. With a fanciers license up to 5, however; you must live in a 2 or single family building to obtain a license and once you have the license they do annual inspections and can drop by any time.
I'm over the limit, but my landlord doesn't care and since there is no smell none of my neighbors have ever complained.

There is a limit here in my town. No more than 3 dogs and/or cats total over 4 months old unless you have a breeders licence. The next town up has a 3 dog maximum and a total of 6 cats unless you have a permit. No livestock in city limits except at the fairgrounds.

In town here, it's a 3 animal limit. But, for like housecats, they never check. Basically, it's a 3 dog limit. Cats don't count for anything.

I had somone tell me they tried to register their indoor/outdoor kitty with the city to get city tags. The city wouldn't register the cat!

I wasn't sure on this, so I looked it up. For my town it is a limit of 4, combined (cats and dogs).

There might be a limit, I believe it is 3 animals total combo of dogs and/or cats, many reptiles you need a permit to own. Landlords vary from breeds, to size, to clawed, declawed, and sex of the dog. Insurance even likes to tell people what breeds they can and cannot own. Rules are so subjective and vary with every person, every country, county, city, insurance carrier, and neighborhood. However, I will not let some city, neighborhood, insurance agency, or landlord decide for me what I can and cannot own as far as animals go. I won't take on more than I can personally handle, sadly some people do which is part of why I think there are rules, also making rules like that helps landlords, insurance, and cities make more money off of people.

The limit here is 5 of a combination of cats and dogs, with a maximum of 3 of one species (ie. 3 cats and 2 dogs, or 3 dogs and 2 cats). So I'm at my kitty limit. I'm not sure what would happen if I wanted to get another one?

I'm not sure if vets keep that info and dob you in if you have too many, or they just ignore that as long as all the pets are taken care of. I imagine it would only be a problem if someone made a complaint.

I only this law because I volunteered at the front desk at the shelter for ages, I don't think it's well known otherwise..

there is a limit of 4 animals here (those being dogs, cats, ferrets, and pot-bellied pigs) and you can have no more than 3 of the same animal. so i am at our limit according to city ordinance. our landlord never said the limit, but we only asked if they took 3 cats.

Doesn't matter. So do we. Lots of county rules, cities, and insurance carriers attempt to be restrictive.

I don't live in the city, so the limits don't apply to me..but in town there is a limit of a total of 4 cats and/or dogs. They just finally were able to pass this ordinance about a month ago, and it a way, it's totally hilarious. They had been trying for years to get some kind of updated animal control ordinance for the city.

So, at the city counsel meeting that night, they finally got the votes mustered to pass their ordinance, good or bad as it may be. Then, about 2 items later, they announced city and county budget cuts, to include cutting 1 million dollars annually from the sheriff's department.

The sheriff waited for the floor, and when he was recognized, he announced that every deputy and position in his office was mandated by state legislature, expect for 1. He was laying off the animal control officer.

The city has a brand new ordinance, with absolutley NO ONE to enforce it.

In my city, the limits are 4 cats, and 4 dogs (which I am at my limit) but I would love to have more. I have not violated this rule though because I wouldn't be able to give up any animal of mine and would probably go to jail before that would happen.

Limit here is two dogs and two cats. Unless you're a foster home. And you can apply for a third dog, but it has to pass the canine good neighbour test.
