Well just what the title says...

How can we keep her from lickin' the wound? Preferrably without getting the dreaded collar..

If she's small enough, I've heard of people using socks with the end cut off, or maybe a sweater sleeve or something to slip around her middle, but that might be as bad as the collar.
It would at least be as offensive!

We actually got a soft e-collar. It was so much better than the hard ones. And, the bonus was that Joyeux the Marbled Menace turned into Joyeux the little Bluebell. It was really cute. We took it off of her when she ate or drank..

And on that note, she's the only one that we've ever had to e-collar. Ever. Lots of puppies and kitties and ONE had to break the track record. And she was so awful about it that we had to go to the emergency vet clinic to get it for her.

When I got Blossom spayed I never noticed her bothering her stitches but on day 3 or 4 she had pulled one out. I took her to the vet & she put in a staple. I bought an e collar just in case she started touching them again but never got to use it as she left them alone. The hardest thing I found was trying to keep her quiet, she continually ran around jumping on the furniture. I had to lay her cat tree on its side. When she became too active I put her in her crate.
I used an e collar on my dog 11 years ago bc she pulled a stitch when she had a cyst removed from her back. She managed it quite well, she would lift her head to get around objects so she didn't bump into things. I didn't think there was anything wrong with them if they prevented an animal from undoing their stitches. About 14 yrs ago while at the vet I saw a rotty that had had his eyes operated on wearing a bucket on his head, an e collar would be more comfortable than that.

She will be okay soon. It takes some cats longer than others to heal. In a couple of days she will probably be her usual self trying to do things she shouldn't be doing yet. It is hard to see them uncomfortable, though. Hugs to you and fast healing vibes to Pogue

That's great news. Sadie wouldn't leave her incision alone, even with the Ecollar. But, I solved the problem by cutting the leg off of a child's sweat pant. I cut two arm holes in one of the leg and left the body of it just long enough that it did ride up over the incision.

We were lucky with Mika - she didn't lick a lot. Just a bit and the vet said that as long as she wasn't over-licking not to worry. Sounds like your little girl is on her way to a good recovery without the e-collar.
