Well, a line in a post is usually 15+ words... How about this - to make life easier:

Qualifying posts will have to meet one of the two criteria:

1. At least six full lines long. That means at least fullsix lines plus some change. If you have more than one paragraph, then you will have to count only the full lines in each (not the last lines with only a couple of words).

2. At least 150 words in a post (yes, reduced from 200, and you can thank my husband for that - he said there's no way he could do 200 words himself lol)

Example of 150 words post broken into 2 paragraph:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. In id velit ut dolor ornare sodales. Ut turpis. Donec orci. Ut dui. Ut dui. Ut porttitor. Curabitur sollicitudin lacus in dui. Pellentesque nunc. Praesent elit augue, accumsan eget, tincidunt vitae, molestie quis, dui. Ut leo lorem, vehicula eu, laoreet a, convallis vitae, risus. Nullam non justo ut lacus semper elementum. Vivamus pharetra vestibulum nisl. Cras aliquam lacus ut tortor.

Etiam ut lectus. Vivamus leo. Duis turpis ante, condimentum vitae, dignissim ut, dignissim eget, risus. Nam dui. Sed auctor tincidunt magna. Curabitur odio erat, pulvinar at, pretium vel, hendrerit condimentum, nunc. Integer nec augue. Integer.

Example of 8 lines post broken into paragraphs:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Morbi pretium pretium pede. Aenean a sem vitae lectus vehicula ultrices. Curabitur ac velit sit amet diam mattis gravida. Pellentesque semper, ipsum sit amet tincidunt congue, ligula orci congue elit, nec luctus purus arcu nec nibh.

Maecenas vestibulum leo eget lacus hendrerit fermentum. Nullam ipsum. Sed venenatis venenatis mauris. Nulla vel nisi quis tellus ornare congue. In at augue non nisi ultrices egestas. Morbi nisl sapien, facilisis a, sollicitudin non, accumsan sed, magna.

Sed et odio gravida felis suscipit ultricies. Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Nullam quis nunc. Ut adipiscing placerat turpis. Ut leo lorem, vehicula eu, laoreet a, convallis vitae, risus. Nullam non justo ut lacus semper elementum. Vivamus pharetra vestibulum nisl. Cras aliquam lacus ut tortor. Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique

To clarify -

1. Your posts can be in any of the participating forums and can be spread across several of them.

2. You can start posting today.

3. To submit the URL to one of your posts: at the top of every post there's a linked number which shows you the number of the post in the thread. Right click on that and select "copy shortcut" or "copy link location". Then paste that link into your submission.

Please wait until the 15th to submit all of your six posts
You can start now and try posting 1-2 a day, then submit the ones you are most proud of on the 15th.

Wow, thank you!
There's still so much to learn about raw diets...

And as anyone who has had to read through my posts knows, hitting 200 (or 150) words was definitely not one of my issues... :cough:

I guess I'll just post like normal and see what happens. Good luck to all of you that enter, though!

OK, thanks Anne for clarifying that up a bit for me

But in order to 'win' is it based on how well you write your posts?

Or is it based on just picking one person out of everyone that participated?

By the way, I was thinking, how am I going to remember where my posts are? I mean, we don't turn them in until the 15th right? By then our posts are well forgot about and I don't remember where they are... Maybe we could have a forum just for the 'participating contestants' and we can all post ours in there as we do them? I don't know....

this is lifted from Annes original post about the competition.........

4. ** Note Change Here ** To be considered, posts should be at least 150 words long or over 8 full length lines long, and include useful cat advice and/or personal experience and/or offer support. Posts should be courteous and promote community spirit.

We'll see about how we'll determine the winner. I am thinking a public poll at this point, but to make things simpler we might go with the staff here as judges or even a draw.

I like the idea of a poll because it will let everyone in the community judge what contributes the most to the community. It's not always only the most knowledgable posts either - could be a mix between knowledge, helpfulness and just being plain 'ole nice to people

I really don't think that if you are voting you should list the names of the contestants. That way noone is playing favorites
But this is a good idea Anne, I can't wait to see everyone putting the little extra effort into this

If they're voting on who is most helpful, though, they have to know who is who in order to be able to vote.. if it's just random, then it defeats the purpose behind putting thought and taking time to build community spirit and helpfulness.. in that you'd just need to qualify and get your name on the list so that you could be voted on.. hmm, sort of a toss up...
I think I just confused myself.

umm even if you dont show the names, some peoples style is easy to tell

maybe just stick with the staff as judges, they are the ones who understand the sites objectives, ethics and such like the most of all..........

you could use a scoring system just as a starter to help filter out

so for instance - I'm not suggesting what points to give its just an example....

points for style / courteous / support / friendliness
points for relevance
points for advice
points for promotion of community

what ever I am sure its going achieve what you want and be fun for all concerned

Yeah, Heather, you are right. I never thought of it that way! Maybe I should just leave it up to Anne, and forget about it! LOL

Me neither!
If there were a prize for sheer volume, I'd be a shoo-in!

I think sometime supporting someone by sharing your own personal experience in a similiar incident could be just as wonderful as any "professional" advice. Or joining in, or even starting, a fun and fruitful discussion about anything cat related. I really do think anyone can join in on this one!

Okay, just to mess things up a bit
, what if I personally don't have a post to enter, but someone else has posted something that meets the contest criteria that has been really helpful or nice, etc. to me - can I nominate someone else's post for consideration, or should I just pm them and suggest it as a post they should consider entering?

I would feel funny saying "look, here are my awesome posts!"

. Can't really think of any. I could PM others and suggest they enter their posts though. Great idea
