What gender do you prefer? (For cats ;) )

So, do any of you prefer one gender over the other for the kitties you adopt? For what reasons?

I like male cats myself. All the best cats I've ever known have been male; they seems to be more affectionate and personable. The female cats that I've known have been mostly (but not entirely) little Prima Donnas and very much aloof.

Fortunately, I've never had to deal with a male cat spraying, though I was concerned about it when I adopted my sweet Loki and Possum. I'll probably only adopt male cats, for the rest of my life, unless a very sweet and speccial female comes along.

On the flip side, I will only adopt female dogs. It's essentially for the same reasons I prefer male cats, but I also think they are better protectors. Male dogs are just too rambunctious for me, and I've never liked some male dogs' predilection for "rubbing on" legs to be very attractive.

All my cats over the years have been male, not sure why I prefer male but I think it is because I have adopted all my cats from the Humane Society and I always feel sorry for the males because they are kept locked in cages, where as the females seem to have the run of the building. Of coarse this is because most males are not neutered until adopted as they do have some very nasty habits like spraying.
I feel bad when I see them locked up and just have to bring them home....

I don't have a preference. However, I've always only had girl kitties for some reason. I tend to adopt stray or abandoned cats and it just so happens that they've all be girls. Abby had a home before she came to me. I adopted her from my friend's room-mate when Abby was 4 months old. I happened to be looking for a kitten as a companion for Chynna and my friend happened to know someone who had one to give away.

I would adopt a boy kitty though if I had the room.

I'm the same as you. Male cats and Female dogs. Same reasons too.

I have 3 girls and 3 boys and but my three boys are sooo much sweeter. But I love them all equally

I don't really think either or are more affectionate. But I have always had male cats. Mum says it's because they were cheaper for her to neuter. But even after when I was the one taking care of vet expenses, I picked the boys.

Poor Mia is the only girl animal in the house.

I've always had a mixture of both. I like the differences and the way they seem to balance

Edit: I admit, Daphne is the only cat I have ever adopted on purpose. All the others came to me - adopted me

I don't prefer one sex or the other. I choose the kitty based on purr-sonality. OK, so I've never really chosen a kitty....but I've got 5 girls, 1 boy inside.

I was thinking the same thing
We always had females, and then at one point just males, and well willie didnt like midnight lol! But, Bella had found me so to speak and so we had a girl in the house again, and then we went and adopted all the other girls, but we went with an open mind to the shelter, and well we were looking for one and came home with 2
And I found Stormie online! So I really dont have a prefrence because they all have their own personality, and the two most cuddliest cats are Bella and Willie and well Blue who is currently on my lap
So we have the 2 boys, and 4 girls, But willie has been here the longest

And that boy of yours is the sweetest, spunkiest boy!!

Lily is the only cat I think we've ever actually selected, and we had planned to get a feral tan coloured boy who was there but had been adopted out a couple of days before we got there as it turned out.

I can honestly say I don't think the sex of a cat has ever come into my mind when adopting, or deciding to take on a cat that's landed on us.

The ONLY sort of cats that I'm less fond of is torties because of their supposed "tortitude", but that wouldn't ever stop me adopting a tortie if they seemed to be the kitty for me.

Ha ha, it's the tortitude that makes them extra special!

I prefer male cats. They seem to have more personality, are more affectionate and willing to lay in my arms like a big baby.

I seem to like female cats best. I have nothing against boy cats but I think that boy cats have the tendency to wander off a lot, and with girls they like a bit of fuss and stay by you. I'm only saying this about the boys because my friend has a boy about 6 or 7, and since he was a kitten he kept wandering off and they lost him for about 3 days.
As I said before I have nothing against boy cats, so please do not be offended!
I like boys and girls, but I think the fact I've had all girl pets all my life that kind of made me like girls more!

I personaly do not have a preferance. I have owned both male and female cats an love the personalities of both. When I go to adopt a cat I look for attitude and personality. Male or female does not matter. They are the same in my eyes. My DH on the other hand has only owned female cats. We constantly battle about what our next cat would be. He is insistant on only females because he has never been around males but I keep telling him that they both are great. Sex should never matter. It should come down to who fits better. If a male is the one who you are drawn to get him but if it is female then get her.

Thats what I've noticed too- when I was at the HS getting Bayley- I noticed all the females were really high strung and not very affectionate
I guess I go on personality, but thats how all the females were at the HS... I love boy kitties
Thats all we've ever had!

Well i used to prefer males cause the females I have had in the past didnt seem to be as friendly as the males. But the kitten we got from the humane society is a female and shes just as friendly as our males.

I can't say I have a preference. I currently have three females and one male, but that's just how things worked out. They're all very sweet, affectionate and funny, although my Peter is definitely more easygoing and accepting of other kitties than his sisters, who all have their moody moments.
I'd love to have another boy if I could, just to balance things out a bit, but I wouldn't hesitate to adopt another female either.
