I recently adopted my eight week old kitten Punkin from a friend who had two litters (With another one on the way..) I stayed at her house for a week sleeping and playing with Punkin until she became insperable from me. If I went into a room and closed the door she would meow until she was let in, so I decided it might be the right time to bring her away from her mother/aunt/brothers/sisters/cousins. (Both mothers took turns caring for all 12, and both litters slept together in a pile)
She has done perfectly well adjusting, but has to sleep in my room with me. My mom won't allow me to keep the liter box in my room (frankly, I agree) so there's no way to isolate her from my three existing cats.
Valentine (9yr old female) was fine when we brought home Rascal (7 year old male) but neither of them much liked Spazzy (year and a half old male) who now has made himself alpha male wether the other cats liked it or not. All three of them are outdoor cats, but spend about an equal amount of time indoors as out (usually when it gets warmer like it is now they spend most of the time inside unless they have to go to the bathroom)
I brought Punkin home, expecting problems with Spazzy, but that's all. I was wrong. Valentine at first just sniffed her and meowed in a very low tone, but recently she has hissed and even swatted (with claws out) Punkin. Rascal has generally just meowed and walked away when Punkin is near, and Spazzy immediately started attacking her. Every time he sees her he will hiss and swat at her.
Now the three original cats stay outside even though it's getting ridiculously hot. They come inside to eat and drink but then immediately meow until we let them out again, especially if they see the kitten.
I've tried everything I can without locking Punkin in her own room. I've sat them down together and petted the first cat, then Punkin, then both at the same time, but no results. I'd be grateful for any ideas. Thanks.
