Help...my cat will not stop going on the kitchen floor!

My cat is 10 years old. We just recently got him a perfect bill of health from the vet. For the last 3 years he has had this horrid habit of pooping on the floor directly in front of his box...in fact, he scoops litter out of the box, makes a tidy pile of litter and then goes on top of it EVERYDAY. We have 2 huge litter boxes (we have 2 cats and they toally love eachother too), they are cleaned everyday, and I scrub the floor everyday after he does his business. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break him of this habit...seriously it is frustrating and disgusting.

Are the boxes covered, or open?

Where is it located? Does he have enough room to get in? These were issues with Sammy.

I know you are very frustrated but I could not help but laugh at the mental image I got of this cat with a little shovel digging out his own personal pooping pile.

As the others have asked. Is the box large enough?
