In paradise, under a cat pile
My cats see many spirits around me. Some days there are many.

One time the dog that my Willie died and that day

Willie was playing in the hallway with 'someone' Just like they use to.

I wanted to say think you for post.  I found my kitten Henry 4mos ago under a big green trash can. Every since I brought him home he has slept around my neck and in the middle of the night he will jump up and act like he is chasing something out my room. He will hiss and meow he is always at my side. It is very odd but, he makes me feel safe like he is keeping something out of my home.

Although this discussion occurred some years ago, I am glad I came across it today.  Sometimes my cat will sit and stare at a particular spot on the wall or the floor for several minutes.  I do not see any bug but she sees something.  It's so weird. I never thought about ghosts as some of these replies mention.  I am a Christian and had my coop apartment blessed by my minister when I first moved in.  I don't see or hear anything, but who knows what happened prior to my moving in.

My 8 month old kitty likes to run and jump ontop of my dresser and she will stand on top of my jewelry box moving her head around in circles and swatting at nothing, I like to tell myself it's probably a bug but it happens when the lights are off (I have my tv on at night so that's how I know what she's doing) I usually ignore it but sometimes she does run around my room as if someone is playing with her and nothing's there. I do get scared but if it is a ghost I don't really care cause at least it's keeping her busy while I sleep and I don't have to deal with her attacking my toes, other times she just stares off or turns her head as if she hears something but its dead quiet.
I do believe in the paranormal and so I think it's cool, I do believe that my cat is sensitive to the paranormal.

Lately Mia doesn't want to sleep in my room.  As soon as she sees me go to bed she hides or wants to go into my roommates room which she never did before.  Usually I go to bed and she is right in there after she goes to the bathroom and gets a midnight snack.  Not anymore.  I feel strongly that she sees ghosts.  One night I woke up to her screaming and found one of her toys in the middle of the bedroom floor.  At first I thought she took it up but the way she was cringing on the side of the bed and staring at the toy made me think it got there another way.  I have decided to do everything possible to rid myself of this ghost.  I will get some sage and place it in the room, I will bless the room with holy water, I will ask a priest to get rid of it or a medium if necessary.  I will do anything and ask anyone to get this thing away from Mia.  You can threaten me or attack me but not my cat!

I can relate to cats seeing ghosts or whatever they are seeing. It has happened a few times, but one night something happened that I will never forget. They was all looking at something in my kitchen, and they all kept moving their heads like they was watching a bug or something move. Littlebit started hissing as the hair raised up on his back. I got scared and tried to tell myself that they was seeing a bug that I couldnt see until a loaf of bread came flying off of my refrigerator into the floor. I literally thought I was going to pee my pants lol. That hasnt happened anymore but the cats do watch things I cant see.

Both of my cats see ghosts. It is really weird to just see them following something with their eyes that I can't see... It use to happen all the time at our last house but not so much where we are now.

My kitties always look upstairs when nobody's up there. But have to show you this picture. Just got Mnnie's ashes back and took a pic of the touching way they wrote her name on the delivery box. But check out what appeared after I looked at the picture I took. I'll include a picture of what Minnie looked like as well as the "image" that was on the picture. The box was plain white except for a piece of clear tape on it and her name.

i once found my kitten staring at a corner, chattering and trying to paw at "something"...and it was not a insect...calling her name repetitively didnt divert her attention from that "thing" at all. She stopped however after a while and came to sit next to me. That was the only incident though, thankfully :p

I had a similar experience before with my cat. It was late at night and he was in my room cleaning himself when he suddenly just  stopped and looked at something. I don't what it was but it scared me since I called his name and even began to pet him. He didn't flinch and stayed like these for a minute. It was really weird.

I honestly think my cats saw ghosts in my old apartment. They would lay in bed at night and look all around the room, like they were watching something. It was pretty freaky. I woke up a number of times around 3 am (hour of the dead) because they were meowing and looking all around the room.

I do not believe in ghosts, so I'm going to say no. But I am also not going to say there is always a good explanation for cat behavior. Cat logics isn't really logical, now is it? :D

That being said, my cats look at ceilings and walls all the time. They will also return to the same spots for several days, if they caught a spider or some bug. I guess they are just hoping more will show up. Sometimes they start meowing and jumping to reach a part of the wall where they caught a fly, even if nothing is there. And sometimes they just act weird.

It's cats! They're weird. :D

But I am too much of a rational person to believe in ghosts.

Well the same could be said about all species, even humans... Sometimes humans most of all... that our logic isn't very logical.

The truth remains that cats senses are far keener than ours.  And they have the instinct to focus and "see" things we may miss because of this...

No one can say for sure that it's "ghost" or something supernatural.  Not believing in it doesn't make you more rational in my opinion... It just your opinion.  Many "rational" people that don't believe in such "nonsense" become believers when they have an encounter they cannot explain.  It doesn't make you stupid or foolish to believe.  However, it is fact that the cats senses, all of them, are much keener than ours and they are far more "aware" of their surroundings.

It's true that I cannot prove ghosts don't exist, but I do think it's weird to then just assume they do. There are an infinite amount of things whose non-existence we cannot prove. I say infinite, because we can just think up something new. For instance, I cannot prove that invisible dancing purple elephants don't exist. Does that mean we should assume they do?

But I realize this is not supposed to be a religious debate, so I will refrain from any more of this.

All I can say is that I of course agree that cat senses are way better than human senses and they have not the ability to think things into "existence" the way humans do, so yes, I do think cats sometimes see/sense things we cannot. The leap to ghosts is just a bit much for me. I've seen my cats respond to shadows on the walls or return to places where they previously saw insects. I've seen them walking around and sniffing places while looking for something. God knows what. But ghosts? Meh.

I don't get involved in religious debates because they are a no win situation.  And people get too defensive.  I wasn't saying you are wrong only stating that believing it makes someone illogical is somewhat rude and very insulting.  Just because someone may believe in it doesn't make them a fool for believing so.  Many smart scientists believe in it.  Does anyone accuse them of being stupid?  No.  That's all.  I was just stating that beliefs and opinions are good and fine but saying it's not logical and irrational to believe differently is just well ill advised.  That's all.  :)

Usually cats sniffing or watching an area intensely can be explained reasonably because they can hear, smell and see much, much, much better than we can.  So just because you don't hear it, see it, smell it, doesn't mean it's not there or that it's of another state of existence.  It could be a bug, a pest, or a shadow, or a scent left over from some other creature.

I try not take part in religious debates either, but mostly because I am always accused of offending someone. I don't understand why, because I am just using definitions of words. Somehow in religious debates, people expect definitions to change. It is in fact by definition irrational to believe in something without having any evidence. This is from my part just a statement without any judgement whatsoever. I myself have a terrible fear of spiders. Also completely irrational, but that doesn't change anything about my fear. The same goes for religion. It doesn't matter if it's irrational. It's by definition. It's believing. With proof there is no need for believing. I never understood why people see it as an insult. I am not insulted when someone points out my fear is irrational. They are absolutely right. :D like my mom used to say: the poor spider is more afraid of you than you of him. Still not sure if she's right, lol.

Anyway. Yes you are right about the last part. They hear, see and smell so much more. I am sure that when my neighbor drops something and I don't hear it, my cats will. And they will look as if they just saw a ghost (pun intended ;)), but really they just hear things I don't.

Oh and before someone feels insulted again, please don't. In fact, I am jealous of people of faith. I think it would make life much easier to have such faith. I just cannot force myself to believe in anything. Again, who cares if it's irrational? If you take comfort from it, who is anyone to judge?

I have two cats and they often perk up their ears, widen their eyes, freeze and stare at something in space. Last night I was watching TV and the cats were dozing. There was no one else in the house and, IN UNISON, they suddenly perked up, froze and stared for several seconds at something near the door. Then, that 'something' must have moved up because they both, in perfect unison, shifted their sight upwards. I looked with them and saw nothing. My theory is that we are surrounded by spirits all the time and they pick up on this. I find it comforting, not scary.

I believe in ghosts and bad energy but a lot of things can also be explained by electrical problems, structural issues or problems with rodents or insects, all things my cats seem to know about before I do so I've learned to pay attention to their behavior as usually it is the first sign that there is a problem in the house.

My cats often seem to hear and see things that aren't there. Sometimes it really seems to bother them. My house often has a lot of unexplained noises. I don't know what causes the noise, it is an old house but I've lived in lots of old houses and never was there so much thumping, creaking and banging in the night.

I have a door upstairs that likes to bang when it is closed, so much that it sounds like it is opening and closing itself. After living in the house for a couple of years it doesn't bother me as much as it used to but sometimes it is really loud. I don't think the room is "haunted" but it is the only bedroom that I've never had a bed in. I would never sleep in that room, something about it just bothers me. Sometimes I hear what sounds like objects falling but I go to check and nothing is out of place. I never hear any of the noises during the day. Sometimes all 3 cats will be in bed with me and they will hear a noise and bolt across the room in the middle of the night.

A recent incident was a couple of days ago I got woken up in the middle of the night by what sounding like something climbing up the window between my bedroom and the enclosed porch, but of course when I went to look there was nothing in there. But it was VERY loud, enough to wake all 3 cats up and have them run to the window to investigate
