do your cats see ghosts?

Persi & Alley: I agree! Not ghosts, but I guess the "spirits" if you will of those who have passed. They live among us... angels, I guess, and demons. Cause when Zoe did that, I got totally freaked out and started to pray, and she stopped. Tucker is just too dang lazy to notice them I guess; cats just have a certain connection that way I suppose. *shrug*

Cats that seem to stare into space at the ceiling or floor probably see a shadow or a tiny bug, not a ghost. However, when they stare out a window, pay closer attention. I had a very scary experience a few years ago. My cat was staring intensely out the window. I joked and called his name and said "what the heck are you staring at!?" He didn't respond though and refused to even look up. That was unusal. Plus, he was looking directly down and not moving. It's hard to explain, but I know this cat well so I actually got up to see what he was so fascinated with. I expected it to be a raccoon or rabbit, but what I saw was a man crouching down under the window. I'm not kidding. I yelled and the man ran. I have no idea who it was. I haven't had any problems since, but it scared the he!! out of me. Funny thing is, I also had a very large dog. The dog didn't notice the intruder, but the cat did!

god bless cats. Sneakers is my window kitty. always keeping watch over the apartment. i know something's up when he doesn't respond to me calling him or even coming over to him near the window. fortunately, i've not had the above experience. but i know that Sneak is always on guard - unless of course, he's napping on my keyboard!

Evil dust! That's what they see... or might be seeing around here, I really slack at dusting
it's a losing battle to dust in Oklahoma anyways...

I've had cats respond to things around, but it was never just staring off into space. The reaction was always much more like that of if an unknown person or animal entered their space. The cat would get upset and run away, and with me on their tail since I usually 'felt' it too.

The other day both Sho and Tomas were intently staring at the washer and drier, knowing what that look meant, I walked over as quietly as I could... And what did I hear? Scuttling sounds. There's a mouse behind the hallway cabinets and the washer and drier.

Both cats have found several scorpions and spiders too. So if you see your cats staring, look in all the logical hiding spots for such. It might just save you or your cat from a painful bite or sting.

I don't know, but I do hope so. I grew up with a dog only, and now I have 2 cats and I'm totally missing my dog-protection when I'm reading or watching something scary. Maybe I just need to get used to their different brand of protection.

Oh, that's just terrifying. I'm glad nothing bad happened to you. I live on the second story of an apartment just for that reason; there are really no easy ways to get in through the windows here.

I have two cats and while I don't believe in ghosts often wonder what they do stare at. One cat, in particular, will be sitting on the bathroom sink counter or drinking from the tap and will suddenly stop and stare back out into the hallway; this type of staring is different, though I'd hard pressed to explain in which way, than the staring that comes when he is looking out the window or detects a bug or spider or even when he sits in front of the front door and stares--presumably because he had heard someone or thing.
My mother died in this apartment in the living room and that is the direction in which the cat stares. Nothing interrupts him either and then suddenly he will resume what he was doing.
I wish he could talk to explain what he finds so fascinating.

just because both cats where sitting on the back of the extra office chair,
staring at the same spot on the wall and meowing. does not prove anything.

You can find me at Disneyland!!!!
My house has 3 ghost in it. They are only active at night. We dont see them, but we hear them. One of the ghost is VERY mischevious!!!!! When my cats were alive, they would "stare" at things we couldnt see. My birds do the same thing. They sometimes just stare and hiss at what to us is nothing... But I believe that they see the ghosts.

Honestly, I think I'd prefer ghosts compared to finding a man hiding under my window again. ;-) Cats are just very perceptive. It might just be a sound they hear, such as a mouse in the attic or behind a wall that you might not be able to hear yourself. I don't believe in ghosts. I don't think cats see them. Their senses are just more keen than ours, that's all...

Sorry to bring up a 4 year old (dead? :p) thread!

I used to believe this too, maybe it is true. Have certainly experienced it with other cats and wondered what an earth they're looking at.

But just wanted to add... I played with one of my kittens with a light reflection once in our room for about 20 seconds when I was bored. Now sometimes she just sits staring at that wall or others in the room on high alert for an hour or more!

Just saying, I don't think they're always on a higher consciousness
- and they're definitely sometimes mesmerized by shadows and lights!

My cat Ruby, who is realy sweet , sometimes starts growling at walls or running around like she is either chasing something or being chased .she will be sleeping on my bed when I am doing something and just start out of nowhere Her pupils are dilated whenever she does this and I have heard that cats can see things we can't . I wonder sometimes if she is seeing my loved ones that passed away because on long island medium I saw her tell a lady her dog was playing with her husbands spirt. If any one knows for sure about this please let me know because at knight she freaks me out and sometimes I feel realy bad because she is hiding under my bed and I can't get her out.:rbheart:

I don't believe in ghosts but my cats sometimes have me worried when they all start and stare into space when I can see or hear nothing. They did this once all looking at a wall, and freaked me out until suddenly, through the tiniest crack beside the electricity meter, a bluetit emerged! Sadly, before I could get to the door to let it out, it knocked itself out flying into a window and Ellie got there before I could. There are all kinds of things living in our walls that we don't hear but the cats can.

Don't know if any of the cats we had growing up ever "saw" anything, but strange things had occured in that house while growing up. So much so that at 24 I still sleep with all the lights on (and even that doesn't always help). I was the one seeing and hearing things (the cats were never around during those times).

One of my sister's boyfriends even admitted to seeing another girl sitting with the four of us (my sisters and I) in our living room mirror while playing video games! But, this was well after our cats were gone and as I said before, I don't recall them ever doing anything like what has been said.

I don't believe is ghosts and ghouls or haunting spirits. But I am Christian and I believe in spiritual warefare.
Me too :)

As far as "ghosts" I believe there can be certain leftover "energies" and also that demons can take on any form they wish.

Most of the time, 99% of the time when my cats do that- I can find a tiny bug or something they are going after, the other 1% - not so much. I know animals can sense things, storms, etc that human's can't... So it would be no surprise they would be able to discern and see into the spiritual realm.

My Roscoe stares at something, and it's always going up the stairs.
