Sometimes. I was kicked in the face by a horse several years ago. One tooth fell out and several others were damaged. At the time my insurance would only cover the cost to get one tooth extracted and a partial put in for that one tooth. so it was taken care of. and I knew, eventually the other teeth would need to be done.

Well..tonight one of the other front teeth broke off.

I am just about to start a new job..and I look horrible!

I dont have any insurance right now so that puts a leech in it.

and i am deathly afraid of dentists anyways

Plus side is, my local ER gave me some numbers for some places which have a slideing scale pay rate.

however since i will have to get a tooth added to the partial that means front of my mouth will be a big old gap.. *provided i get in any time soon*

I sure hope it can be done by next wensday! and i hope i can afford it!

Oh you poor thing
I know exactly how you feel! I have one of my top front teeth missing (yes the main front teeth), and it's been missing since I was a young kid, but have had a false tooth on a plate since I was a teenager.

I finally decided to get a dental implant, and had to get a bone graft first to build up the bone. After it was done I wasn't allowed to wear my plate with the tooth for 5 weeks
I was going for interviews at temping agencies with my front tooth missing and I kept lisping... it was horrible.

Then to make matters worse, I went to another oral surgeon to get the titanium rod put in that would hold the tooth (I didn't like the first oral surgeon), and he said the first graft didn't take, and he had to redo it!

As well as that, he put my plate straight back in, and said not to take it out for a few days, then I could take it out as per normal to clean it. He said there's no reason for me NOT to wear it, as it keeps the swelling down, protects the area they did surgery on, and keeps me from playing with the stitches with my tongue.

I was so mad with the first oral surgeon - not only did his graft fail, but I could tell he did a bad job, and I had to go without a tooth for 5 weeks!

So yes - I can absolutely understand what you're going through. Ring around, get quotes, see if you can go on payment plans, and make sure you get the best you can afford!

wow good to know someone else whos going through it. I dont mind getting the plate added on to riht now eventually i would like to get done what you had done. but for now, the plate is fine with me I have gotten used it. I am lucky the dentist who did my plate the first time gave me the mold he took of my mouth so I think that will save me some time and money
I have a list of places to call. I am just so self concious about it. I got the job already..but ugh..what a way to start a new job..and end my old one! GAH..

Plus side..at least i have a cool story to tell..how many else can tell they got kicked in the face by a horse and only lost some teeth?

Yeah that is pretty impressive!!!!!! It's so embarrassing to be missing a front tooth. I knew people were staring at me when I spoke to them. I wasn't imagining it either, you could see their face change when they realised I was missing a front tooth.

And you know, it was horrible at the time, but that's over with now, and I'm over it. If my plate breaks (let's hope not... it's about 12-13 years old now....), but I won't be as self conscious as last time because I know the people I met at that time I'll probably never see again, and the friends I saw during that time knew the story understand, and felt sorry for me, but don't think any less of me because of it!

Yeah my husand keeps telling me i am just as pretty as ever ad its not like it was my fault..*lol* which is true. Its just hard not to feel self concious about it. I just hope someone can get me in and make it affordable. i have the plate already, and the mold I am going to assume that will be a little cheaper..since its not starting from sratch..i hope anyways.

That sounds great! Wish we had someone like that here. Please let us know how it goes. Sending lots of healthy smile and low-cost dentist vibes!

Having just had a front tooth break off, I can relate. It's really hard to deal with emotionally.

Here's some perspective, though: You're very lucky that you weren't permanently brain damaged or disfigured beyond the dental issues.

Despite how tough it is to deal with, there are worse things than a front tooth falling out. This is said to you by a person who gets hysterical and bawls during a CLEANING. By a person who JUST had a front tooth fall out in a restaurant in front of 15 people.

I DO know how you feel - and you are very welcome to vent to me in a PM if you need to!!!

well i had an appointment it was a waste of time and money IMO. they told me I needed three extrations (which I knew) told me they couldnt do it there that I hd to go somewhere else. And that my partial wasnt covered under their slideing scale thing..and would be 284 to add the two teeth..

Oh yeah and my hyperventaliting didnt help. *sigh* so..still sitting here in pain.

thanks guys the support helps. I am super embaressed about the tooth I know it happens but ugh. and the pain sucks..lol

so..time to start saving pennies... no sensein having te extrations done til i can get the partial fixed. Although I may go in and get the molar pulled at least cause thats the one that hurts the most.

That really stinks that they didn't do any more than that for you. I hope you are at least out of pain soon, and you can get what you need.
I am about to have to get all my bottom ones out and get a full bottom plate. I already have a top plate from having a tool box fall on my face during a move. It broke off 11 teeth below the gumline. I already had a lower partial. I am glad I am not afraid of dentists, I would be going out of my mind.

Ouch! toolbox to the face sounds as bad as what I got to cause all my teeth problems. Owie owie owie.

yeah they said the biggest reason they couldnt help me is because the molar was broken at the gumline. I dont see why they cant help the other two...ah well..working on it. lol
