quick question. what is the average time a mother cat should leave new born kittens? Not seen silver with her kittens for a while now and worried. they seem Realy active. i dont think i have seen a day old kittens so active, they are climbing all over the box and worried as this seems unusual to me. help.

Well, this being the first litter that I've ever been involved with, I can tell you that I was worried about the same thing... Every time I would walk in the room, Mushy wouldn't be near her kittens. But, as soon as I walked over to the kittens and tried to do anything, Mushy was right there protecting them. Then the kittens would wake up and start to nurse and it almost seemed like she was saying to me, "great, I just got them to sleep...now look at what you did." LoL Anyway, I was told that I shouldn't be too worried about it unless she isn't nursing them.

i have never had a mother move away from her kittens for the first 24 hours , but all are different.
as long as she dosnt stay away for more then 40 mins at a time , and she is nursing and cleaning them , then all should be fine.
does she go to them when they cry?

Each cat is very different. I have some that you cannot pry away from them and just takes quick runs to the food, water, and litter box. I have others that just nurse and clean briefly, but don't stay with them all the time. Usually, a first time Mom will start out this way, but then within a week bond to the kittens and stay with them a lot more.

I weigh my kittens daily to make sure that they are all gaining weight, check for dehydration, and other general health issues. You don't have to do all of that, but do make sure that they aren't crying too much and are gaining weight (even if just by sight).

as said before, each cat is diff. my foster didnt leave the babies side execpt to eat and potty for the first 3 days. then after that, would for about 10-15 minutes at a time. now that they are 2 weeks old. she leaves them for up to a hour at a time, but goes back if they squeak, lol
