I'm not joking here... I have a Persian CPC girl that she was a blue and white (or was it black/white? Ha Ha she's changed so much I dont' remember). Then when I brought her home she drove me crazy goign from looking blue and white to then looking black/white. Well I trimmed her down and I've noticed that her hair growing back is all different colors. I didn't think much of it but last night I was sitting on the couch with her on my lap and I got to really LOOKING at her hair... she definately has white, black, and brown/red on her - like a calico.

How can this be?!?!? What is going on ?!?!?

Look at these pics. I'll post what her kitten pics looked like in the next post.

Well it could be "fever" coat on the blueish color. But red is a color that comes in slowly. Its quite possible she was a tortie/white as a kitten but didn't show the red at the time - or it was only a small spot of red (looks like a faint hint of "red" around the mouth in the one picture).

I had a tortie rex kitten that was born black - 2 days later where was a very tiny red spot on her back........as she grew, more red showed up but she was mainly a black with only a little red.

What color are the parents/grandparents on the kitten?

The parents are a blue and calico. the grandparents are blue and blue/white and blue and cream (I think that's right).

Was the calico a calico (red/black/white) or a dilute calico (blue/cream/white)? From the description you should have all dilute colors. If the mother was a calico - she could have been a light black or one of the grandparents were mis-colored. Do you have a copy of the pedigree?

With what you gave me, you've always had a tortie/white - just that the red took this long to show up.

Yes the mother was a dominant calico. Yes I have her pedigree and No, no one was mis colored. Although I have told ya wrong... the dam's sire was a red.

Tortie/white is cool BUT I thought tortie's had smaller patches of coloring.

Thanks Scamper

Then her kitten was a tortie/white all along - just that the red took a long time to show up
I prefer to call a cat that has black/red and the white confined to face, chest, feet, belly a "tortie/white".

Calicos are usually mainly white with some patches of black/red. IMO the mom is not a calico - but a tortie/white too

LOL Well Mimi's mom is definately a calico... there is a big difference b/t calico and tortie. I've never seen a tortie with so much white.. normally they have patches of black and brown on them. Hmmm I guess I'll have to check this out some more.
