I'm going to be staying with my family for a week or so. Gatsby and I will be driving (6 hours). My family's house has wooden floors downstairs, and I'm worried that Gatsby will scratch them up, which is not an option. I saw something called "nail caps" at petsmart today, do those work? If there is no way to assure 100% that those floors will not be marked, I will have to keep Gatsby confined to one room for the entire week (unless there is a way to prevent him from going downstairs).

In addition, is there any possability that his personality will be changed due to the pressures of travel? What's the best way to amend this? Should I keep litter in the kennel, food, water?

I think keeping in a room with all his needs is the best for a short stay. Maybe you can bring him down to another room and watch him under supervision.

A cat retracts their nails, so walking on wooden floors will not scratch anything unless the cat is scared and puts the claws out. In our old house we had hardwood floors and the cats would never put out their claws on the floor - they just walk normal on the pads
