hello again,

looking for any tips or words of wisdom. my cat is 4 years old - i have had her since she was 7 weeks and she is the sweetest, most friendly, laid-back cat. she has always had other cats and even dogs around and has always gotten along with other animals quite easily.

this summer, i am moving cross country and my cat is staying with my parents for 2 months. they have a very shy and gentle 14 year old cat. their cat is very unlike mine - she has never been around other cats or dogs, she hides from humans she doesn't know, and on top of that she has kidney disease and has to eat prescription food and get the IV of water every other day. she is losing weight and they're not sure how long she has left.

any tips on how to introduce the younger cat to the older, less healthy cat. i do not want to make the older cat really distressed or more sick. we have an upstairs and a downstairs in the house and are planning on keeping the new cat upstairs for a while but i'd like to slowly introduce them.

thanks
!

As you have already guessed, "slowly" is the key to the introduction.

The thread below has much good information on how to go about it.

When Mika came to our home (when our daughter moved back home complete with kitty), we only allowed supervised visits for one full month until we felt comfortable they wouldn't hurt each other. Actually we were more worried about Mika since Bijou is actually twice her size and weight. Now they are the best of pals and although they sometimes play rough, Mika is good at holding her own and after play they'll curl up together for a nap.
