I know most of you have never considered Prozac and cats and I was the same way less then a week ago but . . . . . I am 100% sure Milo is happier and not so anxious as he used to be.

We did not take this lightly.

HOWEVER - having squirted a few meds from time to time down his throat I knew the response I was getting with the Prozac was slightly different.

SO - I decided to put a TINY bit on my tongue to see what it tasted like.

WOW - OH MY GOD!! It's like reconstituted lemon juice BUT stronger!! I think it numbed my tongue! I have been giving him special treats afterward to help him get the taste out of his mouth.

My mother's cat (who was fine before) after giving birth and raising her kittens went "crazy". The vet said it was a hormone imbalance and put the cat on "prozac". It did help, but it was only a "band-aid". The cat ended up being put to sleep. I'm not sure what to think. I don't think I would do it, but if it's working for your cat, please stick with it. It beats the alternative..

I think every case is different, feral65. My vet has had good success with it, using it short term (6mos to a year) and usually not seeing the issues return after going off the Prozac.

I get it for the cat at the pharmacy. It's a human pill I split in fourths. The 1/4 pill fits in a Pill Pocket treat and gets devoured with enthusiasm.

Slight sidetrack, but I did get some Pepcid compounded into a "chicken" flavored liquid. Bleeeccch. It didn't taste anything like chicken.

Not sure about with cats, but for me, I take Cymbalta, an anti depressent sorta like prozac, and its done wonders for me, and is hardly just a "band aid".

It's a soft treat with a hole in the center. You put the pill inside, squeeze it shut (I make a ball) and the cat eats it willingly. It works on my cats. For a big pill, I cut the pill and feed multiple "treats".

They're sold at Petsmart, Petco, vets, and smaller shops and feed stores too.
