Jobs, what's the length of time you've stayed at them?

I quit one job after about a month of working there -- the other employees were irresponsible twits, the work environment was unhealthy, and I was just plain miserable there.

The longest I've ever worked anywhere was two years. I have lousy luck at landing long-terms jobs -- the business closes or is bought out by a larger corporation that doesn't need me, the job is only short-term contract, they change their mind about the skill requirements, etc. *le sigh*

Let me see...I have been working since I was 16. The shortest job was probably 6 months (my first) at Der Weinerschnitzel. Other jobs were right around 2 years. My last job was 7 1/2 years, my present job is going on 8 years YIKES.

Aside from assorted casual jobs that weren't intended to be long-term, I have had three employers (10 years, 6 years, 27 years). Only the middle one did not involve changing positions/responsibilities.

I have been at my currant job for 15 years, prior to that I was at a job for 5 years, which I left due to a change in ownership. Before that I was at several different jobs but only for a couple of months each because I was still in school.

I'm sorry your having problems with your job Susie, I've had a lot of problems with jobs in the past, when I was younger though. I quit many jobs after only a few days!
I've been at my present job now though for almost 13 years, I hate to start over because I know what a difficult time I have with starting over and how picky I am. I have been getting somewhat tired of my current position though lately. I hope you find something that works out for you soon!

I always enjoy AND get angry answering this question. I worked for a company for ten years and they gave me a Rolex President.
I was wondering what I was going to get for my 20th anniversary and I found out: A pink slip.

shortest job- about 5 weeks. i HATED it. it was a floral design job (i'm a lisenced florist/wedding planner) but this place was horrid!!!! At one point one of my evil coworkers locked me in a cooler when i was getting some flowers and didn't see her. (and of course it was an old one and didn't have the safety thing inside so i could open in
) the list went on- the place was really old and dusty i hated it (i'm a neat freak). Actually a few months back it burnt down one night- i seriously saw that comming

longest i've stayed at a job was for 4 years.

I don't stay long, but the employers have all known when I would be leaving from the start. I usually get one job for the school year, and then go home and get a different one for the summer, but I tell them that at the interview.

My current one I might stay at longer since I'm staying for the summer. In some ways its getting annoying, but I have a feeling anything else I could get would be the same or worse.

My shortest job was soliciting donations from alumni. It gave me a giant panic attack because of how rude the people were and the idea of calling strangers and asking for money... it was soooooo high pressure. I made it through training and like 4 shifts.

The longest I've worked at one place was my last job, 22 years and now I have a nice Pension, it's worth it to stay in one place so you get these benefits. I guess the shortest amout of time at jobs was when I was working for Temp Agencies, sometimes those only lasted a week or so.

2 years, but I've only really had a job since 4 years ago.

Shortest was about 5 weeks, during the holidays as a temp retail person. And thank god it was only 5 weeks.

My longest with one employer was 3 weeks shy of 20 years. I worked temp jobs too-never "quit" one of those-worked through job completion.
Currently self employed since March 2006!!

So guys, I take it from this poll that I'm not the only one that has left a job after a very short time, knowing that this wasn't the one for her??

Definitely not the only one. Why stay if its not the right fit? You'll only make yourself miserable. The right one is out there, you just need to find it.

Longest - I've been in my current job for 5 years and with my current employer for 11 years. I have good working hours, leave, pension etc so am not looking to go anywhere else although it might be forced on me as changes here mean in a couple of years time my job might not exist (they would find me something else though if I hadn't found something myself).

My shortest job lasted for about 2 hours
It was casual temporary work one summer when I was about 19 in a cheap and tacky fish a chip cafe. It was horrid and I hated it from the start and just knew I was going to be miserable so after a couple of hours I told them it wasn't for me and left. Got a job in another fish restaurant for the summer that was much better.

My longest was 7 years as a Print Dept. Supervisor. And I was laid off.

The shortest is 3 days. I always give jobs 3 days when I'm starting. If I think I can't handle it or it's just not for me then I quit.

Well, the only reason I would stay is that we need the money, but I'm just hoping and praying that this leap of faith pans out for me........ I will keep looking till I find that perfect job for me! Anyone out there want to pay me to babysit your kits!???
