Miss USA Booed

I watched some of the Miss Universe Pagent and saw Miss USA slip and fall on her hiney and then get booed by the audience. At the time I thought she was booed, but wasn't certain because the sound from the audience was quite poor. But sure enough according to the press, she was actually booed.

The press says it wasn't anything personal against the girl, and that it was a reaction to the US Country itself based on measures which have been taken over the last year to keep out illegal migrants.

On the point of the booing, I think the people of Mexico showed poor form in booing the girl. She is a beauty pagent contestant, not a political representative and she had no say in what the government has been doing. I think it was very rude and showed poor sportsmanship.

On the point of her slipping and falling after tripping on her dress and receiving more than an 8.7 score, I think that was inappropriate. She should have been deducted points for that. Others in the evening gown competition who performed much better got lower scores. I chaulk that up to the fact that a good portion of the judges were from the USA and their voting was bias.

What are your views?

You didn't need to see it to have an opinion The whole thing is outlined in the news story that I linked to.

I thought I heard booing a few times at her last night but thought I was mistaken.

Taking out anti-Americanism on the poor girl was tacky but things like that happen all the time unfortunately. What I am really tired of though is some of the "news shows" on the news channels showing her falling down over and over. That is probably the most embarrassing thing that has happened to that girl so far in her life and I don't think it is newsworthy to show it repeatedly on television.

I think it's disgraceful. Fancy booing someone for something like that. Disgusting. People have no class and even less empathy.

I find booing a person because of their nationality, creed, race, gender etc extremely mean.

My husband watches Ultimate Fighting Champions (UFC) and I am always horrified when a foreign fighter gets into the ring and is booed on the basis of their nationality. Chants of "USA, USA" are also called when the foreign fighter makes there entrance along with the booing.

In fact, an American fighter mocked a Japanese competitor by doing the Karate Kid "crane kick stance" (mocking Japan/Karate) to the crowds approval.

I saw that. Why boo a beauty queen? She has nothing to do with politics. I heard the Mexicans said something like only Americans win but didn't Miss Japan win this year??

Yes, Miss Japan won. She also got booed, at least it sounded like it. She was on after Miss USA and the audience sounded the same, though a little less loud about it than with Miss USA.
