I am back in Texas after having spent a most wonderful 17 days in Victoria, most of Vancouver Island, the city of Vancouver, Whistler and surrounding areas. There were only two days of rain and the people were as nice as the weather and the beautiful countryside. I was wondering about one thing; I noticed two different license plates on the cars:

1. Beautiful British Columbia
2. The Best place on Earth

I was wondering which was the newer (I saw far more of the first one) and why it was changed. In any event, I would have to agree with either!

I've been noticing the odd plate lately that I could tell was a BC plate, but not read properly while driving, and assumed we had a new plate series. That would be the latter. Still haven't had a chance to get a good look at it. "Beautiful British Columbia" is the older one.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! We think it's a pretty nifty place, too.

The newer one is "The Best Place on Earth". It is in anticipation of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Here is a link to the history of BC license plates:

Thank you! I was also wondering if the games are going to be held in Vancouver, Whistler, or a combination of both, or somewhere else? I saw signs saying Vancouver but it seems to me that all the skiing and other snow sports are in Whistler.

It will be a combination of Vancouver and Whistler. You're right, the skiing and other snow sports will be at Whistler; those sports requiring indoor venues will be in Vancouver.
