Hi guys. I know I have been asking a lot of questions lately

My resident cat is a really friendly cat and my new cat seems really easy-going too. Only after 2 days of separation, the new cat has started tolerating the resident cat and would let him sniff him at times. However, the resident cat is apparently very happy to have a companion and would meow at him nicely sometimes and would follow the new cat around. The new cat, on the other hand, isn't very appreciative of what the resident cat is doing. He would jump up to a high spot and not let the resident cat follow him, and sometimes he would make funny short sounds to signal that he's annoyed.

I feel that the resident cat always gives wrong signals to my new cat. I know my resident cat so I don't think he is trying to hurt the new cat. He likes other cats and he's just curious. But sometimes his following the new cat makes the new cat really annoyed and the new cat always tries to keep a distance. Just earlier the new cat wanted to bite my resident cat because he couldn't stand him following him around. And I shouted and he stopped.

Is the new cat never going to like the resident cat? Any suggestions to help them get along with one another?

Oh -- And I also want to ask if I was overreacting when I shouted at the new cat for trying to bite the resident cat. I am afraid he would feel unhappy and associate my shouting at him to my resident cat. I don't want him to dislike the resident cat even more.

How familiar this sounds! Persi was the resident cat and oh how bad he wanted to make friends with the new cat, Alley! Alley would hiss and claw at him every time he would make an advance. But he never gave up, he kept trying and trying to be friends with the new cat, and as you can see from my siggy, Alley gave in. Persi is male, and Alley is female, both fixed. I do not see how long your cats have been living together but mine became friends after about two weeks.
