I used to have 2 cats, a female and a male, that never liked eachother. The male was very old and, we believed, had some kidney problems. Recently, he ran off into our woods to die away from everyone. Now, our female is our only cat and she is acting very strange. She is not as hyper as she was and she's laying and sitting in the places that our male used to sit in, which she had never done before. She hasn't lost her appetite, thankfully, but I'm worried about her. I love her very much and don't want anything happening to her. Is there anything I can do to help her feel better?

Cats need time to adjust to changes. As long as she is eating and using the litter box, she should be ok. You can give her some extra attention and try playing with her to get her active again. She also may be mellowing out because she doesn't to be on alert with the other cat.

Cats whether you notice it or not really do care about eachother. It's not uncommon at all for a cat to become depressed over loosing another cat friend. Give her plenty of attention and play with her as much as you can. Keep an eye on her!!! She will eventually get over the loss, but she could develope behavior problems and that's why you need to give her lots of love. Good luck to your little kitty and understand that she had a loss too.

Thank you! We got her a catnip toy today and she seems to be a little happier with that.
