Well, I found the car I want today!! It is a 1997 Honda Civic with 154k on it..They are asking $5450, but I will offer less of course.

I wasn't able to put a deposit down because I want my mechanic to check it out first..

Please send many vibes that noone else buys it before Monday AND that my mechanic likes it

Thanks everyone!!

It's not that bad. I have a 1994 Jetta and it has 250K on it but thats still not really that much kilometres.

Here's a website to check the $. This is where I go when buying from an individual :www.kbb.com

And here's a profile of a 1997 Ex coupe in excellent condition:

http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Pric...izConditions=0

And unless you just have your heart set on a Civic, the Accords from the mid nineties are everywhere, and I had one up until 2 years ago (a '94 wagon- hard to find
) that I sold for $4300 with 100k on it and in excellent condition, inside and out (except for the antenna-oops) and my family was impressed with what I got for it! lol. They are a bit bigger, get great gas milage, cost a bit less (civics are more popular) and run forever
.

Good luck1!

Good luck!

Is the average for a car around 20 000 a year? So 154 000 doesn't seem that much. That means the previous owner drove it about 15 000km/year.
But, your mechanic will check the engine out. Good luck to you!

Sending good luck with getting the car vibes. Is it a manual transmission, since you talked about shifting?

I know you said your current car is a death trap, so I'd probably go for this one. Hondas have a very good service record, i.e., few breakdowns.

I am going to get it..as long as my mechanic gives it the okay..I really really hope he does.

I would not be stressed paying off $5000 either..this would be the perfect car for me
