All my kitties are now a year or older and I have the empty nest feeling. I had it before but after losing Squeakers I really have it bad now.

I have seven cats I know that is way more than I even should have and I know I should feel content that my kitties are all healthy, they are all vaccinated and spayed/neutered.

And I keep asking myself do I really want a little stinker running around the house climbing on the curtains and attacking my head and feet at night. But I still have the empty nest feeling.

Maybe I am just trying to some way to replace Squeaks but I kind of had this feeling before she went missing.

I know I should give it some more thought and I know no matter what I decide to do that my BF would accept a new baby kitty but.... uhhhhh

I thought about fostering but I really don't have a room for it. I don't have a spare bedroom. I do have a sun porch but we usually leave the door open to let the breeze into the livingroom. Even when we close it at night it is hard to get the cats out they love to rest on the window sills. Trying to get through the door with out several cats trying to run in is almost impossible and I am not even going to go in to the three dogs.

I dunno, I guess I am rambling and wondering if this happens to others.

I always wish for another kitten, but it just isn't possible right now. At least I can go and smoosh my neighbour's new kitten whenever I wish.

There's no place like home
I have learned to avoid the empty nest feeling. When I lost my first cat (he was an only child), I adopted 7 more within a year. 4 years ago when I lost 2 kittens and an adult to FeLV, I gained 6 more.

If you give into it, your household will get quite large very fast. I speak from experience.

Welp, I answered a Petfinder ad today.

One was for a cat and a Guinea pig. Both from the same person.

cat: Domestic
Name: Frosty
Age:Adult
Sex:F
Size:S
Adult female domestic cat needs a loving indoor-only home. Sprayed, not declawed. Very sweet and loving. Pure white, short haired. Great with kids and other pets. Military family moving across country and cannot take her with us. $20 for "Frosty and all supplies. Contact Heather at XXX-XXX-XXXX

and

smallfurry:
OH xxx-xxx-xxx Heather
Name: "Teddy" Bear
Age:Young
Sex:M
2 year old beautiful male Guinea Pig to a loving home. Sweet, but not overly noisy. 4x2 cage, remaining food, treats and bedding come with him. Military family moving across country and cannot take him with us. $20 for "Teddy" and all supplies. Contact Heather at xxx-xxx-xxxx Thank you for looking!

I called her and have arranged to take both. My daughter has wanted another Guinea Pig since hers passed on many years ago and well I wanted to help a kitty.

I know I am crazy but, I feel I am helping. I talked to her for almost an hour about both pets and I think we can do it.

The cat is five years old and the piggy is two.

The piggy is black, brown and white with "cowlicks" everwhere.

She is going to meet me at a half way point tomorrow and we get to meet our new family members.

My BF just shook his head and said okies. It is his birthday today but he took it in stride

Wish me luck tomorrow

have you condsiered becomming a foster mom to some needy animals?
i'm sure you would do a lovely job at it and you would be helping out many animals in need! not to mention you will NEVER have that empty nest feeling when you're bottle feeding little ones all hours of the night

I think there was only one time in my history I had 'empty nest' sydrome.

It was after my mini-lop bunny died (sudden horrible death
) and I missed the little bugger SO much. Zorro missed him too. All Zorro, the big Alpha Male cat of my household, had to play with were two older female cats! His 'little buddy' was gone.

(weird that my big mean fat cat used to get along & play with a bunny, but oh well)

I had a mouse problem at my condo. I was getting sick of trapping/killing and disposing of bloody mice. Ick. So I made an excuse to adopt a kitten; not only was Zorro really lonely and in need of a male cat to play with, but well I had those dang mice!!!

So my daughter and I went to the Humane Society and found Hammie. A 12 week old rambunctious orange tabby with a spirit I'd not seen in a long time!

No more mice; no more lonely Zorro; and, no more empty nest. Cuz shortly after Hammie, I moved, took in 2 older cats, and then my fiance moved in (husband now) who has 2 YOUNGER cats.

Oh yeah and somewhere inbetween all that, I took in my mom's dog who she didn't want any more.

I don't think I'll be feeling empty nested for a loooong time...

I know this feeling. My alpha female loved the bunny we had. He was a french lop and as big as she was. I think she thought it was her BF

I have got both the cat and the piggy home and Gizzy is already in love with the piggy

His name is "Teddy" bear but my daughter wants to re-name him but she has not thought of anything yet.

I have the new kitty as well. She is on the sun porch. I have the cat carrier with the door open. She has not come out yet but she has been sleeping for the last hour so I figured I would let her rest and let her un-stress.

I am going to go out soon and chat at her.

She is very pretty. She is a lot bigger than I thought she would be and and fluffier.

I am in love already. I will post pics and more information as it comes along.

Definitely not! Mosi is now 17 months old and still a manic kitten. I love him to bits and have really enjoyed having a kitten around but I'm exhausted and am looking forward to a period of relative calm before the next one (will be whenever I move to a bigger house - could be 6 months, could be a couple of years). Jaffa is nearly 10 and still very kittenish so I think I'm going to have the hyper behaviour and racing around treating the flat like a race track for a while longer

I have been having the "empty nest syndrome" too lately.
I know I don't need any more but I love having babies around.
The thing that stops me is knowing that they won't be little forever and they do grow up. I couldn't turn down a stray kitten though.
