Have I been disrespectful and not compassionate? Because I have a different opinion?
This thread is about the War on Terror, not Iraq.
I think that the threat from Al-Queda is very real and they have said many times they want to destroy us, now the want to attack our capital. That was in the OP, then John Edwards says it is all hog wash. I think he is an idiot.
And Kit, I have heard many times the terrorists and terrorist states talk about our ungodly, permissive, heathen society. I'm sure you have also.
You talk about "generations", the USA is 200 hundred years old. I don't see us as a conquering country like you do. We will, eventually, leave Iraq. We occupied Japan also and left that country better off, industrially, then when we got there. It isn't called the United States of Japan.
As far as aid, aid to me is NOT charity. Governments need aid, they make deals for it, period. One of the deals for aid should be, "don't stab us in the back", is that to much to ask?
We helped Afghanistan expel the Soviets and they turn on US? Because we didn't help enough, a few years later Osama wants to bomb us? How is that for grateful for our aid.
None of the reasons I have heard in this thread are valid IMO.
I dont think everything has to be this big complicated baloney for their hatred of us. I still think and know it all comes down to the basic reason of our support for Israel. And no, we will never turn our back on Israel. If we did that then I know I would give up on our country for good. And Israel is a power because we helped make her one. One teeny tiny country in the middle of oceans of enemies all around her, she has to be powerful to keep from being destroyed.
I just read an article about Sweden a few days ago, they are having their share of problems with their growing immigrant (especially muslim) population.
