I adopted a stray pregnant cat who gave birth to her kittens 4.5 weeks ago. I've been trying to introduce them to my resident cat in hopes that they'll have more play area. They are currently confined to my bedroom and my resident cat only ventures in every now and then. He gets along with the mother and sometimes rough houses her, but they seem to get along just fine, no hissing or swatting.
When I change the kittens bedding I allow my resident cat Shaggy smell it. He doesn't hiss or get growly. I've introduced the most adventurous kitten to Shaggy and he aggressively sniffs and then licks him. Is this good, because I swear he looks at him like he's dinner and starts drooling. I'm afraid he's going to bite the kitten. I still have them separated, but I allow Shaggy to sniff and lick them every now and then under my intense supervision.
Suggestions? Comments? Is the aggressive sniffing and licking okay? Will it calm down?
