The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex recently became the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country... and the northeastern suburb where I live (Plano) is contiguous with one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation (Frisco).
I am surrounded by concrete.
But as this monster metropolis has grown, it's had to flow past and around a few staunch holdouts who simply would not sell out their family farms and ranches -- and who were lucky enough to escape the evil blade of "eminent domain." So there are just a few little pockets of countryside here and there, often across the street from a strip center or next door to an apartment complex. And when I get so sick of the city that I can't stand it anymore, I go spend a little time in one of these spots.
My favorite one is a big field where about ten horses live. They're so beautiful, and they seem so happy! Sometimes I've seen them all cantering around the field together, the wind in their manes... I just love to watch them. And today I was able to get close enough to take a few pictures, so I thought I'd share.
One is a group shot of a few of the herd... and the other started out as a group shot, but the brown-and-white horse in the front is my very favorite of them all, so I Photoshopped all the other horses out of the background to make it a portrait of him.
Just thought you might enjoy seeing "my" horses too!
